Moreton Bay Classic 2010 Competitors: Electricity tower refurbishment in southern Moreton Bay Islands area

Dear members of Brisbane Fishing Online,

As part of our $3 million plus a day network improvement and maintenance programs, ENERGEX will be refurbishing two electricity towers in Main Channel in the Southern Moreton Bay Islands area. The towers are located between Rocky Point at Russell Island and Woongoolba near Cabbage Tree Point. A detailed location map can be found overleaf. The refurbishment will ensure a safe and reliable power supply for the residents and businesses of Russell Island and surrounding islands.

When: Works are expected to begin in late April and be completed in early June 2010. If you are competing in the 2010 Moreton Bay Classic, please be aware of these works.

What to expect during the refurbishment: ENERGEX contractors will undertake abrasive blasting and then apply protective paint to each structure. Barges will be anchored around the base of the towers throughout the refurbishment to create a safe working platform. Barges will also travel in Main Channel, between the electricity towers and Cabbage Tree Point, during this period.

Safety: Safety signage and lighting will be in place on the barges during these works to ensure the safety of the community. Boat and other marine craft operators are asked to observe standard maritime safety procedures around the towers and be vigilant around the barges operating in the area.

Thank you

ENERGEX thanks you for your support throughout this refurbishment project.

I think south is the only option for a few of us who are restricted with boat size but can't see any probs with energex

No I dont think there will be any problems. Just thought it would be worth knowing on the off chance.

I liked Jeff F's analogy :P
