Rainy Dawn Session Dutton Park: 24-04-10

Headed down to Dutton Park this morning in the drizzle with Henry to try our luck live baiting for Jew.

I had one really good run from something early on which took the bait but spat the hook :(

Anyway that was it for the livies.

Being a bit bored I decided to flick a Damiki Saemi around for the hell of it.

Good decision.

Caught a 55cm Flatty (my first from this location) and a midget cod.

Saved me from a duck :)

Anyway great morning all around regardless of the drizzle and idiot high school girl rowers telling us "there are no fish in the stinky river".

Angus

Sorry about the picture quality but after killing a phone lately it didnt come out of the glad bag :P

Bloody school girl rowers wont be back chattin when you start releasing some little bullies back at em

Mate I was saying that to Henry.

Something along the lines of "this would be THE BEST time ever to catch a bully".

Sorry mate.

It was kind of last minute.

Was going to do something totally different entirely but that fell through.

Saw Henry on the old facebooker and yeah just threw it out there!

That can be a very productive spot Angus, I grew up only a short distance from there.

Caught my first ever jew there in 1973 and saw the first thready I had seen caught a few weeks later. Can be a very good landbased spot for bullies.

Agree with that, Steve. I live around the corner and used to take my boys there when they were in primary school. Used to regularly catch bream, flathead & cod. Have seen sharks caught there a few times. Ideal for plastics or hardbodies as the rocks take a liking to anything with a sinker attached. There are mud crabs too, but I wouldn't eat them.

Have only been there once in the last few years, and that was at Easter this year. Took some plastics down and filled in a quiet hour or so. No fish, but did see some fair sized fish patrolling the edges of the rocks and also saw a few bait schools moving around on the high tide. Bit worried about the snakes though - might have to take the brushcutter down and clear a path.
