Wellington Point Jetty - 7am thru to 10am

Morning all,

Me and the missus (miss Munchicken) head out to the Wellington Point jetty this morning for an early morning flick with both bait and lures. The tide was dropping and after establishing a (sparse, cause i'm a cheap arse Lol) berley trail, we were soon stuck into a few decent fish. The missus insisted on fishing baits of gut in the berley trail and caught several large black spinefoot (happy moments), not known for their 'likeability', but she had a ball. They ranged to almost 30cm and went hard. She also took a few small bream, some banded grunter and a large sea pike.

Myself, I stuck with the SPs and blades. Caught a good sized and well conditioned bream on a small gulp grub on a TT hidden weights jighead dead sticked down the berley trail. Also took several big happy moments and a leatherjacket smaller than the lure itself

The fun part came when I started throwing my Ecogear ZX30 around. A school of big sea pike came into the area and were hammering the little shrimp imitation blade, with the finally tally being somewhere in the region of 10-15 pike. Most were given away for bait or released.

Some curse them, I think they're great fun when the fishing for other species is slow.

Nothing great, but had a ball. Also, several big tiger squid were cruising the area, and I had no squid jig... :( :(

Mate agreed with the pike. Saved a lot of boring sessions when I have taken mates who are first timers fishing with plastics. I have to admit I get over them pretty quickly, however teh look of delight when they catch fish after fish on there first session is pretty funny.

Beleive it or not I went down there last night to sight fish a nice new jigg I bought and the lights where turned off.

they have been turned off for well over a year now, not sure why, that little jetty was a great place for a night time outing and a bit of 'Eging'.

So you reckon there was a few at day time?

Im going to have to get myself a spot somewhere to test the new jigg.

cheers

It turned out to be a morning well spent. Now I can add 2 more types of fish to my list of being caught (its still small but I will increase it one day). The Black Spinefoot were great fun. Despite the fact that the blak spinefoot arn't well liked (as felix mentioned), I can honestly say, I will be happy to go out and get hooked in to them again as they were great to catch. They fought hard and were awesome fun. :cheer:

As for the squid, most of them were spotted in the early hours (being when we first got there) and there was only one spotted later on. The spots deffinately a place Mr Felix and I will be trying again on the proviso that we can get a spot as it is normally really busy. We were just lucky today!

Hopefully next time there will be some different species around to hook up on and have a little fun! :)
