Fish stock go down in Brissie River this year? or?

Last year, we see huge number of shark reports of Brissie River in here.

This year, almost none.

Last year, we see many reports around breaky creek, Breft's wharf, all way up to Pinkenba. And I personally caught many decent bream, cod, squire, ray, shark, eel .....along the Kingford Smith Drive area, all are catch and release. I usually bought 2 rod, the heavy one targets bullies or jew or threadie and got eel, ray as bycatch. The light one put on shrimps or small lures caught the other fish. Each trip we usually stay the whole night, the heavy rod would got at least 2 fish from severl bites, and the light one uncountable.

This year we got much much less from that area, which are significant. Staying the whole night maybe just got less than 5 bites from 2 rods. Decent breams are gone, bullies are gone, even the monster eels are gone. Last trip my friend only got a 30cm eel just like a ribbon, I havent seen an eel that is so small yet. We all lost passion that dont wanna going river land base staying whole night recently. :(

Do you guys have any idea what's happening? Over fished? Pollution? The fish are really gone? Or just hv changed the feeding pattern?...........

May be due to weather? That we got heavily rains last month, causing the river water too fresh? too muddy? Or the unstable temperature has an effect?

Please share your ideas. B)

Actually, I noticed this started happen since around September last year. We got less bites, but I still caught rays.

We wondered that time that maybe this was seasonal effect, and hope it would become better again in next year's Autumn. And now half year has gone, it hasnt become better in Autumn like before. :(

It's probably the threadfin infestation eating all the food and having a detrimental effect on the system as a whole

or

It's probably all the fish have congregated at the wharves where they've heard on the grapevine Nadders and co are giving out deep throats for free :pinch:

or

It's probably the weather this past year has been different ;)

or

It's probably a combination of all 3

hahaha... or its coz Ellicat hasn't been out that much this year giving all the fish a free feed and herding all the fish with no reverse on his boat :P

Kaka - Mate thats just fishing for ya. A couple of years ago there used to be a few reports of GT's caught at Hamilton... there were some good cod and flatties caught at pinkenba boat ramp... its just the way it is.

I don't believe the river has gone bad, in fact I believe its better than it has ever been.

A change in tactics might be worth it.

Don't forget in the last year or so, there has been some significant rains in comparison to the last 5 years... patterns will change with that large shift.

lol, free deepthroats is undeniably the answer :cheer:

i havent noticed a lack of fish, some spots are firing harder than last year and vise versa i guess but as henry said theres been more consistant rain (a few years ago we were in a 10 year drought  ) so things do change, just have to crack the new code lol

Cheers

I could not disagree with this statement more...

The reports on this site for Brisbane River fishing have been sensational since last September. There have been countless bull shark, threadfin and other reports from the river not limited to the lower reaches either...

Considering the rain which is thearetically a deterent, id say this has been the best 6 months reporting wise there has been!

i don't know what you expect? your so called locations to just get better an better and better, as the seasons progress. well this is certainly not the case, as there are sometimes quiet periods chasin mackrel and the reefies offshore as well, hence this might be why some ppl have a good year for certain fish. but certainly not every year.

river has been pretty good to me this year, even with the rain we have had .

have got big Flathead ,squire ,big bream etc .

from collages area all the way down to the mouth of the river .

and i'm a lazy slack ass fisher ,people who have fished with me would have seen how slap happy and lazy i am,don't even rig the tackle proper half the time .

my deckies have got on to some really nice fish ,bait and plastics .

don't think people post a report about every trip they have (unless they are me lol),u most likely only see the good trips out .

even some of the guys that post great reports have dud trips out and they put the hrs and days in.

i know i have fished with a couple of them and they had a dud trips, its bad luck davo deckie karma.

every trip out fishing is a good 1 ,but not always heaps of fish caught .

do u read any of the fishing reports on here there is plenty of people catching fish landbase and by boat, you may need to try a few different place to find some fish, try live baits, fresh baits, sometimes if you use something different this will get you fish, and also try and target one fish,i find if i go out for flathead i get them and if i target bream i get them a little bit of thought goes along way and it is called fishing not catching.

So all you guys didn't encounter a issue that having less bites? It's great to hear that, maybe just my spots' problem at this time.

The amount of threadie has going up, yes, I agree with that. But some species, such as bully, did go down a bit. There are still some report catching bullies in the report section, but what I notice is not much as before. You can see the sharking section in here, has keeping silence for 1 month, the last post is from 25th March. Maybe the sharking guys just dont show up and talk much, maybe..

I believe that raining does change something, maybe the feeding pattern, feeding time, or the distribution of fish among the river. It may favour some fresh adapted species, like threadie, and others do not. At our spots near Breft's wharf we seldome caught catfish at night, but recently they do always take our bait, so looks like the water is quite fresh. Or the associated temperature drop in raining causing the bullie not so active....who knows.

I agree that need to change tactic, and trying more new spots. ;)

have to agree with you on the threadies, there boomin :woohoo: maybe the reason why shark fishos arnt posting any thing is cause there catching over 1.5 mtrs and dont want any alarm bells ringing by displaying it even though there released or could be to busy chasin crabs ,snaps ,macks, flatty's n threadies and ATM squid are on the run too.a few of us on here target the bullies in the upper reaches. The bullies are thick in river.

not evry one posts there every fishing trip succesful or not.
