Wello on fire

Launched the kayak early from the boat ramp and made my way out through the markers trolling a shiny new $4 lure from K-mart. There was a lot of floating brown weed that kept me busy. In those few short moments the lure was not fouled, I managed to catch a few decent squire

Even with upgraded trebles, you can see some of the bigger models squashed and straightened trebles.

Once there was a little light, the fish switched on and there was a couple of double hook ups that made a mess, so ended up trolling one line only. I got dusted a couple of times by cod and hooked 2 small mack tuna as well. I kept a 45cm squire for tomorrows dinner and as the sun came up, switched to plastics because the weed was driving me nuts.

The bigger models retreated and the nursery was in session as the sun came up, but was good fun anyway.

Some of the fish were particularly greedy and was thinking WTF? a couple of times, like this massive lizard

I caught over 50 fish in a 2 hour session and only the first 5 were legal, while it was still dark.

When the wrasse got in on the action, it was time to call it a day

Typical long weekend, every f-wit with a boat was on the water, and as I was coming in before 8am had a couple of brown undies moments. Unfortunately, they were out of stabbing range

The net is from my fly fishing kit, couldn't find the other one in the dark this morning. Got smoked by a solid cod and second time, may have been a snapper, but straightened the hook trying to slow its retreat to the ledge.

T/box, the thought of a fresh bloody strip bait did cross my mind, but I stuck to my guns. This was a trip to catch a feed, not fart arse around trying different things out.

the bay is sooooooo tiny its easy to not have room to not run over the top of someone.

No matter how bright and lit up I am, its not going to make a rats arse of difference if the skipper of the stink boat is:

a) sorting sh!t out in the boat

B) finding the coldest beer in the esky

c) not even visible to me as they are heading straight at me

seriously, are gun laws that restrictive that only the navy is allowed to fire a warning shot over someones bow?

some people leave their commonsense at the ramp when they hop into their boat if they only new the full ramification of not keeping a good lookout the water would be a safer place good to hear you got a few at wello it's just around the corner for me but i rarely fish it mainly fish the mouth of tingalpa ck if i'm staying close to home
