Beautiful bass waters

Why is it so, some days you can catch fish and other days you cant, why do they go for lures on some days and other days they wont go near them. If we had the answers to these questions it would take the fun out of going fishing. Anyway I had to go down to the hinterland for the weekend to look after 2 grandchildren, dog and the cat while my son and his wife went visiting elsewhere. As a bonus he arranged for me to visit another property which had some nice deep water holes in the creek. I also had spoken to another farmer when I was down the previous week, so now I was busting with excitement ready to get into these new spots.

Sat morning while the crew were fast asleep I headed for my first spot and after a few metres of walking I was looking at some terrific undercut banks, I thought to myself bass have got to be here. First cast landed exacly where I wanted it and it was smashed instantly, I was using a atomic hardz. I found during the morning that if I had the rod lowered the lure would travel 5 to 10cm underwater but if I had the rod at 45deg the lure would zig zag on top of the water and if it wasnt smashed as it hit the water it usualy was soon after. During this morning session I picked up a dozen bass, several scratches, and sore legs.

Sat arvo was a corker, more new water, more sore legs and heaps more scratches, but most of all heaps of fish. I started off with a dozen shrimp and as the water was close to the car I decided to use these first before walking. I set up on a little bridge which is in one of my pics and put a shrimp under a float and those dozen shrimp were gone in minutes, there was a heap of bass small and smaller sitting under the bridge in the shade. When the shrimp ran out they were smashing small white s/baits. I got over 20 fish in that one spot. I then started walking the banks a cast in wherever it was possible to get to the water picking up several bass along the way on the white s/baits and surface lures. I found myself at one stage on the top of a 30ft bank, I looked down and the water looked so fishy I could not help myself I cast a lure down and as it hit the water it was nailed, now I thought to myself how in the hell am I going to get it up here and get my lure back, well after some effort i managed. But I got greedy and had another cast and lost my lure. I ended up with over 30 for the session.

Sun morning saw me back where I was the morning before as I had only got halfway around the creek and as I mentioned before why is it so, I only got 2 bass for the session. Was it the barometer or was it etc etc,

Sun arvo saw me back where I was the arvo before, with a bit better luck than in the morning, I walked the creek in the opposite direction and found some interesting deep holes that would have to hold cod. Tom from Gidgee lures had sold me one of his new gidgee lilsardinops lures and I was keen to give it a go well it got whacked by a bass not much bigger than the lure itself. I was very pleased with its performance it swims at about 1 metre with a sready wobble. I also picked up a couple on Toms surface dogwalker called the gidgee pup. A trick I picked up with the pup lure is if you see a likely spot you cant cast to or get to and its downstream, just cast as far as you can and let the current take the lure to your desired spot. I often do this when float fishing.

Sorry for woffling on a bit but as you can see this old codger had a beautiful weekend doing what I love best.

Fish while you can

A great report and a ripper session on the Wild Bass Dino, there is no better way to spend a weekend with early morning walks along banks of creeks and rivers lurecasting. pleased the new Lil Sardinops is doing the trick on those sub surface feeding Bass and the Pup in your much loved colour scheme is winning them over too. It does look like Cod country :woohoo: :woohoo: from the pics, I think next trip you had better take that Cod Crank.

Cheers - Tom
