What's the problem with this little guy?

With Daiwa's ABS spool, you should usually have a "reversed taper" line lay on it for easy casting.

Just try putting line on my new little regalxi1000 to see how it goes, which states with ABS spool. Although The line is not for it, it's stren 8lb braid from another reel. The line laying on it is not quite what I expected.

I try another reel with the same line. Even his cheaper brother the old crossfire 2500 does a better job than him. CIMG0637.JPG

May I know is it the reel's problem? Or it is made purposely on small size reel to keep the top part of the spool not too full to prevent line drama? :S

I remember that I had a tierra 1500 before, the line lay better than this 1000, but still not really "reversed taper" as other larger size daiwa's reel.

Thanks, but do you think it is just the line problem?

The 8lb braid is stren microfuse that rate itself 3lb mono dia....I wouldnt say it's that thin but I'll say it's like maybe 5lb mono.

And the reel is for 2-6lb mono, so that line wouldn't be too thick to cause line lay problem, would it?

Line lay is better now, after I take out one washer. ( It comes with 2, I take out the thinner one) So the spool now actually "sit lower" and the line goes more top.

It's still not very even, with top and bottom have more line and the middle has less, but acceptable. I will see how it goes again when my online ordered thinner braid arrives, probably next week.

Just curious to ask that is it what you guys usually do with line laying problem? by adjusting the no. of washer?

Mate shoot Daiwa Australia an email. They're pretty good with their after sales support. Send a pic and they should be able to help :)

Or even give them a call. Have tried emailing them about parts I ordered last year and get no response.

Thanks for your comments mates. ;)

I just wanna show you how it goes before getting further help from Daiwa. I have put some 4lb sunline basic FC on it today, still with 1 thinner washer taken out.

Do you think the line lay is acceptable? Or still not normal as it should be? It is not high end reel, but I am just a bit surprised at first that the cheaper crossfire does better than it (although the crossfire is 2500 and it's 1000, maybe size does matter?) CIMG0665.JPG

mate I don't think you should have to remove a washer to have it sit right from factory. If you have to make mods from factory I think its either a problem or a known feature. Have you actually cast the reel yet? does it affect your cast distance? wind knots? maybe it'll sort itself out a few casts in.

I had a similar problem with my Stradic CI4 and Daiwa TD Sensor Braid. Line lay was an issue at first but after a few casts (dodgy ones at that) it soon worked itself out. Can be a real kick in the pants considering the price of good braid and tackle.

I took it out for a quick session today, and the rain made me wet through. The only thing that I forgot was putting back its washer.

Casting no problem with 1/32oz spitshot. Line seems laying more even at the end of the session. I am wondering maybe I put too much tension when I reeled new line on it, so the line dug deeper in the middle part of the spool.

I will put back the washer and see how it will go next time.PS, the bream it caught today. ;)
