Hi Guys sitting in a motel room in Weipa at the moment wating for the pre dawn light to go for a fish befor I head down to Aurukun for the day. Got here Tuesday arvo and it was very still. We went to the jetty at the boat ramp and I got a small queenie (no Pic) but we had to leave them biting as they were doing some work on the jetty and Reo moved us on. We then went around to Mission river bridge for a flick no luck, but was upset at seeing this waste of fish dumped at the top of the stairs.

Yesterday, We went to Marpoon and the people we were to meet with were late we went around to Cullen point for a flick there were schools of Samon busting up but were not interested in any thing we threw at them. After our meeting we went to Pennefather for a look. What a sweet spot dead calm and massive manta rays feeding on bait schools right along the edge of the beach and schools of fish doing the same. Didn't get any hookups as we could not matsh the hatch. The bait fish were the smallest little clear things, and the fish were not touching ant thing else.

Dave, I wont get back in time for the start and the boat is still in the shop will grab it up Sat morn then work out where to head, I will need to talk to Angus as I will miss the briefing on Sat morn.

Tugger, Yeh we drove down the beach to the mouth saw the willows you camped under. What about some of those shanty camps satalites and all. Had a bit of trouble getting off the beach (3L TD Prodo auto)Let the tyres down and made a new track to get off.

We have aready made plans to take or swags and grab a boat on one of or next trips and stay out there a night or two, will plan that meeting to suit the moon and tides. lol

yeah thats how we got there with directions to stay on the road to mapoon then turn at the rum bottle and follow that to the gulfs beach then turn north along the beach to the mouth of the pennyfather river and i remeber all this from when we did it in 1991 only cause it had the rum bottle in the directions. amasing the fresh water table was only 8 feet down and there were spears at the camp that could fit our rod tubes in to lift water out of which was great since we were there for a couple of weeks :woohoo:

We are going to borrow a boat from a guy in weipa my mate has been working in this area for five years. There may be a chance for someone to tag along and it would only cost them air fares and personal costs as the cars and boats are going to be sorted, Although you would still be up for about 700 bucks for a couple of days fishing.

I have a mate that tows his boat up to Mapoon every year and then motors up the coast about 30km, but he has spent some money on strengthening his trailer. The fishing sounds incredible. He camps on the beach. I am a bit shy of crocs but hope to join him in 2011 for a trip.

you need your boat on the roof for the cape as the road destroys trailors

Yeh there are two types of trialers up here the ons that just go to the Weipa boat ramp and the custom built ones complete with covers for reaching all the sweet spots
