Another Wello Point report

Met up with Justham at 5.30 this morning to chase some pink fish. Hit the water and noticed Seabreeze was way, way off on the forecast (as usual) and trolled up a few pike on the way to the spot. Shortly after, had a blowout on my drive and haven't carried allen keys in the yak for ages, so had to resort to paddling

I found my usual spot and anchored on the high side of the drop off, casting nuke chicken shrimp into the abyss and was rewarded with a couple of just legal squire in quick time. Next fish gave me some curry and as I coaxed it up to the yak I saw a lovely sweetlip in the 50's, but he pulled a swifty on me and did me on the anchor rope. I downsized to 3" shrimp and targeted some more sweetlip and next one came home with me

I got dusted by a cod and a couple of snapper used the ledge I was sitting on to their advantage, so I moved out deeper, and managed a bit of a mixed bag, including bream. Justin rang and invited me out further, where he was catching a few also. I declined because I already had too far to paddle the barge back, and into a headwind for good measure.

On return I noticed the yak was half full of water and found a crack around the mirage drive. Fairly common problem on the older Hobies, so I'm sure Mal will be able to sort it out with minimal drama. Just looks like I need to dust off the boat for the next trip or 2. Anyway, off the water by 9.30 with a feed sorted.

Nice to meet you Justin, lets do it again soon.

Had a good morning out!

I left tom and went up to the top marker and found some big bait balls and fish arches.

Throwing around a 5 inch nuke chook I was lucky to hit the bottom without it getting smashed.

In 2 hours I had my bag and there was starting to get some size about them as well.

Biggest 2 went 42cm.

I'm keen to head out again tom anytime! Might have to look at the coast trip again or redcliffe?

BigKev over at the other forum has sent me a firmly worded pm about how we have been neglecting redcliffe lately. Just gotta find out how long the yak will be outta action.

Den, it was still functioning. I could have removed the rear fin and struggled on with only the one fin, just sucks to have to paddle such a wide kayak that was never designed for paddling. And being low in the waterline didn't help

Batty, dunno bout that

it was a bit unusual today, as the morning went on the squire got bigger. At first they were scraping in at legal, and as the sun came up they got bigger. Not sure of my biggest today, but low 40's on at least 1 of them. I only hooked a couple of undersize fish, and that was after I downsized to 2" shrimp.

It's OK Den, I'll just borrow Henry's yak if I need one, looks like he's still in therapy over the last outing :P
