Friday night tagging

Steve and I braved the cold and the rain to do a bit of tagging down river last night in steves poly.

started late enough and fished through till the wee hours.

If there was a competition for most number of missed strikes our team would have roundly trounced the opposition lol. The hits were thick but we had real trouble pinning and staying connected.

A few fish started comign in through the missed hits, a couple 40ish squire i think, a decent bream at 365 tip and 330 fork, 550 odd flatty and a 40ish tailor. We were both flogging the deepthroaters over a rocky bottom in various colours

moved spots and pulled up a 630 jew on the bottom in 7m of water followed closely by a 670 jew who smashed a chief thrdybuster on the drop near the surface.

soon after finished the nights proceedings with a 1100 threadfin taken in the same circumstances as the 670 jew. was an atypical threadfin hit, most have a tap at the lure, then hookup, then muck about for a bit before taking a long run, this one just charged it down and ran immediately.

Fought very well and although it looks a little skinny in the photo was quite a well conditioned fish. Did not require release weighting as it was hooked near the surface and did not spend a long time down deep.

All fish were tagged and released (except the tailor which was just released, steve doesn't like tagging vermin :cheer: )

apologies for the poor quality pics minimising handling time was the first priority:

well what happens when we catches one we wants to eat and it has a big tag hanging out of it?

If you catch an undersized or oversize tagged fish or you want to realease a tagged fish record the tag number, measure the fish, record and release asap. If you cant get all of this info the tag number is the most important.

For a fish that can be kept this is a bit easier as it can be done later.

Tag number and length are most important data the rest even species if you are unsure and other info such as location caught can be worked out later.

With Threadfin keeping the frame and whole gut bag for Brad Moores research would also help.

cheers
