Popping for Kingfish at Point Lookout

My initial fishing plans for the weekend were to just fish at Dunwich on Saturday morning for a few Trevs but after looking at the radar early in the morning I gave that one a miss. Instead fellow AFO member Gordo (Flash) gave me a call this morning at eight wanting to know if I was keen to go to Point Lookout for a fish. After getting smoked there about five times a couple of weeks ago I was keen to equal the score.

I was armed with the light plastics gear and could hardly manage a bite all day and Gordo brought along his dont argue popping combo meant for large GT's after one had a swipe at his popper on a previous trip. After the first couple of casts Gordo managed to have an army of GT's of about 50cm trying to eat a popper the size of a one litre milk carton with one bigger model hanging underneath the popper but not having a go. They tried again on the second cast and weren't ever seen again. So Gordo kept casting away and eventually got smacked by a Kingie that hit the popper like it was its last meal after Gordo tightened up the drag and figured out what had happened the fish was already in. The Kingie went about 5kg and had eyes bigger than it's stomach if you knew the size of the lure it hit.

All I managed was a Bigeye Trevally at Dunwich at the last moment before the water taxi arrived. All in all a good day out.
