Boat Rock-12/6/10 with Tugger

We set of from Raby Bay in the dark about 5am with Tugger and Eug. It was as expected a cold morning with the winter winter woolies on and I must say we had to admire Tuggers Long Johns, as sight to behold. I'm off to buy some this weekend. The Bay was fantastic although being dark it was difficult to appreciate. In Tuggers thread, Boat Rock-Deckies,he promised that there would be no Bar and he was spot on, As we approached the area we sat off the point for about 5minutes waiting for some light to guide us over but the sun wasn't up with only some glimpse of a light on the Horizon off we went and before we knew it it was over, Like an adolesence first organism, not a wave or a ripple amazing This man Tugger should be a weather forecaster for the Marine forecasting Bureau.

As we approached the Rock the light was just coming good and we quickly set up anchor and got the lines in, there was a surprising swell about 1.5metres every 5 seconds (it felt) and before too long Eug and myself started up Burleying. it wasnt too long before we started to pull some in and I reckon it was down to the burley trail Eug and myself had dropped over the side.

Anyway I'll post some of my catch I was't as sucessfull as my last trip but still had a great day out. Saw a Large whale in the distance Blowing and Breaching, The FA18s again buzzing us What a day out. Our total was 15 One great cod with Tugger, 1 Good Parrot Fish Tugger and 2 Moses Perch myself and the remainder snapper all sized about the high 30cm to about 40odd cm, with Eug and Tugger catching the larger ones. No prize sizes hopefully Eug and Tugger will post in there catch they caugt the larger Snapper with one or two having a bit of a Knob on their heads. P1000110.JPG

Would have to pretty much agree with what Daveylad has said, Tugger's navigation skills in the dark are amazing. Something years of experience and confidence instills in you. The bar was pretty much non-existent and his forecast was spot on, before you knew it we were going past adders rock and on our way to boat rock.

Such an amazing place and not long after we anchored up Dave has a good chunder overboard and me not long after, I was pretty much running on empty and managed to squeeze in a couple of fish. However I couldn't keep any food down and that set the pace for the rest of the day, I'd have a bit of water only for it to come back up again. I did however manage to hook up to a few and one unstoppable that was peeling drag on a locked saltiga only for my albright to give way, spewing (literally). Caught a few just unders and I think around 2 keepers. Mark was on fire with nice cod and a parrotfish and Dave with a moses or two.

Had stacks of fun and even though I couldn't be happier to see land after the day I'd give it another shot albeit with a bit more preparation next time.

Cheers for the day out boys and a special thanks to Mark for showing a beginner the ropes.

Guess who's had snaps for tea?

Thanks!

i know i might be bordering on cruel but i had to laugh when both the fellas started up chucking at the same time on either side of the boat while i was into a fish. this surprised me as the weather was fantastic, still lads it takes a bit of getting used to it offshore. good to meet you eug and i dare say you will get your sea legs in the end as they say

Hey Tugger, 'tis pretty awesome of you to take people out to these spots, some people like myself don't have the means to get to these places, and you're giving them the opportunity to do it. Just gotta say good on ya and that it's good to see such positive community spirit.

Cheers.

Its not just the means to get there that he gives. I have a 6metre boat that is well capable of offshore, but lack the experience, Tugger is constantly giving advice and pointing out details, weather reading, wind, currents, markers and buoys in the area I am gaining more confidence and experience after 2 trips with Tugg and I think that is the safest way to go rather than pointing a boat out to sea without understanding all of the conditions and learning as you go method. His help is a credit to this web site. I am sure there are other skippers on the site that can help learners too if his doctrine it would only strengthen AFO as a leading web site and club :X
