I finally caught one of these of a size not laughable (34 cm) at boggy creek this afternoon on servo prawns, something much bigger got away took my hook. :woohoo:

I caught a 70cm flatty at boggy a few weeks ago.

never use less than 10lb leader when going for flatty as they can bite you off easily on light line, even 10lb can be a bit risky, maybe use a 12lb,15lb or 18lb leader when bait fishing for flatty.

Chances are the one that got away from you was a big flatty.

Mate good work and presistance pays off.

Boggy is also a good place to experiment with soft plastics.

I think a lot of people will agress with me that once you get the hang of plastics and flatties its much easier to catch them than on bait.

well done mate on you first non tiddler flathead i must say that they are probably one of my favourite eating fish when you catch them just around 50 cm. good luck and hope you catch many more

I have been trying to catch a flathead for about two years now, went through many packets of pumpkin seed and nuclear chicken 3" gulp, berkley assorted mainly minnows and I watched a few dvds/read magazines and found it is all in the technique (which I obviously have none) . I prefer bait fishing at the moment because there is more action but Im not going to retreat with my tail between my legs from soft plastics just yet.

I threw this one back to fight another day, went home and cooked up a bit of threadfin salmon that a mate caught, was very nice.
