Could anyone please tell me some good accessible fishing spots in Brisbane area? I take my four year old grandson fishing but we have only been to the bridge near redcliffe and wellington point. I have heard there are some spots at Pinkenbar but not sure if they would be suitable to take a four year old to. thanks. paddypaddy

These are some of the places we run our kids lessons from that are suitable for youngsters and they all have toilets.

Nudgee - near the dog park, fish off the jetty on the upstream side. Don't cast too far away from the jetty. We have had some success here.

Wellington Point - fish on the left hand side as you come down the hill. There is also a good kids playground. Plenty of yabbies

Currumbin river where it meets the surf. There is a bay there with floats across to stop the boats coming in. This is always good for whiting, bream and a few flathead. Plenty of yabbies.

Thompsons Beach at Victoria Point. Plenty of yabbies, nice sandy beach and a playground.

Dohles Rocks - go past the boat ramp and follow the road to the end.

Shorncliffe - fish of the jetty about half way out.

Hope this helps.

There's a little fishing platform on the tingalpa creek, accessible via short path. Nice little hole in front of it. Pretty sure you get there from chadwell st, just off chelsea rd. Has fish cleaning facilities, rod holders etc. Good sheltered spot when the bay is fairly windy, and you don't have to cast far at all.

Cheers - Jono

Wellington point is a nice little jetty, few pike, squid, bream and flathead frequent the area , as well as the odd Taylor and a few whiting.

Colmslie jetty is good for bream and flathead, and a bit further up the road there is a sandy beach at Colmslie reserve, mostly bream and flathead again.

If you have google earth, there is also a beach on the opposite side of the river to Colmslie jetty and it can be accessed by Kingsford smith drive, I have caught good flathead there.

Of course there is numerous pontoons but I they can rock around a bit and might not be so comfortable.

West end has some stable Jetty/wharfs and they produce fish, just not so child friendly as a sand beach or a well railed Jetty.

All are easy access, my favorite being Wellington point jetty as it is such a nice little part of the bay, well worth a visit.

cheers

NPD at Bullockies Rest and fish for gar very simple rig required . Pick a spot out of wind and burley up with some bread crumbs. The gar are really thick and fight well for their size and are tasty eating also.

Cheers

Agree with Ray - I blooded my boys as young as 3 there and it is safe and easy. When they where young they could not leave the line in the water and the gar seemed to like the the movement. Get yourself a really small hook and some small floats and give it a go. have the hook anywhere from 10cm to 50cm under the float. You can use bread, worms and even the servo prawns. I do tend to have more luck in spring summer but you can catch them all year round.

Another good fish to go for there is the old eel tailed Catfish. They really come on the bite just on dusk for about an hour and you should be able to easily pick u 5 to 10 and they tend to hook themselves and fight well.

Good luck Ted

PS NPD = North Pine Dam or Samsonvale Dam

the concrete jetty out from the wynnum playground has fish cleaning stations, steps on each side leading down to the water to land fish and bench seats at the end. when he gets bored with it there is a great playground for him and some corner shops to get some fish and chips or icecreams.
