Damiki Repping At The ABT Lake Macquarie Bream Qualifier

Damiki Pro Staff angler, Gregg Flett,  takes out the Mercury Lake Macquarie BREAM Qualifier with a 10/10. 7.55kg tournament limit.

Gregg started the competition with a bang, bring in a five fish limit that weighed 4.86kg. His 2nd cast of the day resulted in a 1.63kg monster, followed 2 casts later by an 800 gram fish. Both fish falling for the Damiki Vault 42 blades. Gregg then moved onto the soft plastics (3 inch Armor Shads) to fill out his bag.

Once his limit was reached, Gregg returned to using the Vault 42's for the rest of the day to catch all of his upgrades. Day one ended with around 20 legals caught allowing him to upgrade 5-6 times. His Non Boater on day one was Peter Jarvis who used soft plastics to land his first three fish of the day before his bite shut down on him. Gregg handed him a Vault 42 and Peter added to his bag with a 1.63kg, 1.2kg and another 3-4 upgrades during the last two hours. Peter went on to have a first day bag of 4.52kg and went on to win the non boater section.

Both Peter and Pro Staff Angler Gregg Flett shared the events Big Bream (1.63kg).

Day 2 started off well with a 30cm bream landed on the 5th cast. It was a slower day and it was another hour until Gregg got his next legal fish. After the 2nd fish, Gregg started to catch a legal fish about every 40mins after that. The wind that had helped in the bite the day before did not kick in in day two.

Gregs fishing spot was in 12-14ft of water  with a featureless bottom. The area held an eddy of warmer water from the power station which held bait and in turn larger predators, including the Bream.

Bycatch in the area included large flathead, jewfish, trevally, tailor, squire and whiting. Gregg & 2nd place finisher, Wayne Reed had caught 6.5kg and 5.5kg bags three weeks before the event and did not fish there again until friday prefish where one cast landed a 900grm fish confirming they were still there.

The lures that did the damage (pictured left) are the Vault 42 in Holo Green Iwashi and Holo Black Iwashi. The soft plastics are 3 inch Armor shads in Meobi and Gold Mix Flake colours. 1-20100623.jpg

Good to see the Damiki lures doing the damage. They've got a good mix of hardbody crankbaits, jerkbaits and blades, as well as a decent selection of soft plastics including shads, grubs and others. Good value for money in my opinion and anyone who's half serious about their breaming or bass fishing should have at least a couple in their tackle box !!!
