Boat Rock Snapper 80 cm - 27 June 2010

We had a great crew today for our assault on Boat Rock - Tugger, Mookysticks, (that bloke) Tacklebox and Kreel. tBox and I met up with the skipper and mSticks for a slightly late start to the morning at around 5:30am. The run out was typically smooth riding and the bar crossing was slightly more than a non-event. Once we were at the Rock and settled in the fishing could start in earnest.

mSticks wasn't to be kept out of the game and quickly got on the board with a small snapp. mSticks kept telling us that she suffers from motion sickness but managed to keep her berley on the inside all day, in fact conditions were pretty good all day long.

With the girls showing us lads how to fish all morning Tugg had to pull rank and get something worth talking about on board pretty quickly. Its always good to see Tugg man handle a fish from the depths, the rod was buckled in 2, the grunts were coming with every turn of the reel and all the effort was rewarded with a stonker Spangled Emperor at around the 74cm mark.

Tugger had been out the day before and had been surrounded through the day with dozens of whales as they migrated up the coast. Today was no exception. We had sightings almost as soon as we dropped anchor and they continued through the day, some just quietly swimming past occasionally shooting water from there blow-holes. One decided to give us a show and danced around a few 100 metres from the boat. I kept taking shots with the hope that one would show the big tail slaps the whale was doing, even at that distance you could feel the reverberations as the tail hit the surface. After this display he made a bee-line straight for our boat before reappearing a short distance on the other side of the boat. Tugger didn't even charge us extra for the whale watching experience - what a bloke.

The day was interrupted with the "Bill" dropping by to see that we were ok and had all our safety equipment aboard. Then they tried to reverse back into our livey hanging off a balloon out back. Problem avoided and they set about checking other boats in the area.

For some reason I was plagued all day with these ugly looking cod, I think I hooked about 7 of them, while they left everyone else completely alone. I maintain that it was all down to skill that I could get them while no-one else could.

We knew that we had a job to do and that was to knock Ellicat from his lofty FOTM perch. SO we were all waiting for the big one to come aboard. Strangely enough it didn't feel significantly bigger than any of the other fish I'd pulled aboard, but I suppose the SHUIDGIES brag mat doesn't lie. It went about 83cm but I will admit the matt was a little bunched up, so we'll call it 80cm and leave it at that. Sorry eCat .

A big thankyou to mSticks for not chundering and for being such a top person to be around, to Tugger for yet again putting us onto good fish and to my bloke Tacklebox for being such a great fishing buddy. One last pic, here's the catch:

Awesome colour in this photo - I do not find them ugly. :D

Also great to see your report again Kreel. Always a good read. Tugger is the man alwasys getting his deckies onto the fish. Awesome looking Emp and Snaps.

I couldn't write the report yesterday after I woke with a terribly sore throat and the beginnings of a cold. Today I woke a new man thanks to Tacklebox's great Mose Perch Soup. It must be made of magic because I am fit as a fiddle today. Although the Codral Day and Night might have helped a little.

Shutup kreel. Have a shave and get back to work !

I'd gladly have swapped my snapper for that emperor to be honest :woohoo: . Tugger is the real Man, not that bloke tacklebox

ROFL at the CIA shot of Mooky.

Too much fish can cause bleeding on the brain, so you all should take extra care. Great report as usual :)

You'll be happy to know that my application for 7 weeks annual leave has just been accepted! I won't be back at work until August some time. I should have time to get a shave sometime before then.

Tugger decided that we should take advantage of the last day of June to get a really big Snapper so we're off again tomorrow.

Everyone knows how handy you are at photoshopping kreel. Noone will believe any submissions remotely related to you

Scope, I just had a PM from Angus saying that, as he is on Straddie, the FOTM entries need to be in by 6am tomorrow morning to give time for them to be faxed over before the post office shuts....true story. :pinch: So that's only 7 hours
