Dropped in to Dunwich to see Trev

G'day all, thought I'd give you the lowdown on last weekend.

I ended up missing the winter camp due to work commitments, only to have it cancel on me at the last minute.

Seabreeze told me it was far too good a day to sit around feeling sorry for myself, so I grabbed my mate Mick from work and we hastily made plans to head out in the bay.

We arrived at Dunwich just after dawn, and, armed with some advice given to me by Keen as Fisho at the last MBC, began to throw some plastics round the pylons.

It was a little disheartening at first, with a bunch of land-based bait fishos pulling in several fish to our none, but we persisted with a combination of soft plastics and shallow diving hard bodies.

We were soon rewarded when a moses perch jumped on my damiki armour shad in oxblood red, followed shortly after by a golden trevally on the same plastic.

With the overcast conditions and plenty of bait moving around on the sounder, the days fishing was lining up to be a good one.

It wasn't long before Mick was on next with a little squire, his first fish on a soft plastic. Needless to say he was a happy man!

The morning continued in this fashion with the two of us going fish for fish, the majority of these being trevally and squire.

Mick with a nice little Golden, picked up on an Armour shad.

A quick lunch at the Dunwich bakery and it was back for the afternoon session.

We had a short hunt around at the sand dock with some pesky pike and no real decent results. The decision was then made to head back to the ferry landing.

We began to throw some blades in close to the pylons, alternating between a slow lift of the rod then allowing the lure to sink to the bottom, and a slow rolling retrieve.

It wasn't long before I got a very aggressive hit on my damiki vault and another (giant??) trevally was soon landed :)

The afternoon was fairly successful with a few different types of Trevally boated.

With damiki armour shads and some gulp worms doing the damage

Diamond Trevally Pennant fish (cheers for id leighton) - This little guy had a few teeth marks near his lower fin and tail - I'm guessing something big (possibly a kingfish) took a liking to him

Eventually it was time to head home, with Mick and I having boated about 25 fish between us. All fish were released to fight another day. In the end I was really glad I got back to Dunwich and will definitely have to do it again soon.

Another little Trevor - Note the glassy conditions in the background

Thanks for reading - Jono

Nice work Jono, Its a top spot over there near where the barges come in. There are always land based people fishing from the rocks to the right of your photo.

I was there oneday a while back, and it was glassy like your pictures and i seen a huge school of tailor being chased by 3 big sharks around 2 meters long, they came right into the shallows around those rocks where the big grain shute is.

Glad you had a great day mate...Cheers Beejay

P.S We still have to get out one day mate :)

Good one Jono B) What a shame work was canned for the day :P We should take both boats over one weekend and fish Dunwich and also give the rock walls a go around Amity pt.

Yeah sounds like a great idea Dennis. This trip was more of a last minute thing. Will definitely give you a heads up before next one.

nice to see a few goldens still turning up in our backyard!

I was hoping to get out there during the week but stoopid EFY got in the way

Hard luck mate. Should get a convoy going out there soon

I should admit when I say "advice from keen as fisho" on the first paragraph, it should really read "advice given by tomca and keen as fisho to Kreel as I eavesdropped from the back of the boat"
