Ok so after spending about a week or so at king ash bay, we make the call to pack up camp (this is best done when NOT hungover, the NT sun is a killer) and head off to our favorite spot which is lorella springs station, mainly the rosie creek fishing camp. Although I must add this guys whole property is totally awesome. The good thing being that this drive is only a couple of hours and not a couple of days.lol.

The sight upon arrival at lorella springs station. So excited.

The excitement is short lived tho as on arrival the owners (who was away a couple of days) wife informs us that the track to the fishing camp is still closed from the wet season as at least four or five other people have tried to make it thru none of them getting past the 30 km point on the eighty kilometer track, only for the owner (Rhett, a dedset top bloke) to have to come and rescue them days laters coz there stuck in bogsup past there sills. So we make the call to spend a few days fishing the billabongs and waiting for the owner to get back to see if we can con him into letting us give it a crack.

Just some of the awesome fresh water billabongs, swimming holes, and hot water springs on the property. Even without the fishing camp at the mouth of the river this place is still awesome.

So its now about day three on the property and the owner arrives back. So were sittin around the camp fire sinking piss figuring out what to say to him when we ask to have a go at the track. Only to head up to the station house to find that hes left again to save yet another bloke and his missus who have gone straight onto the track and not got past bout 20km before calling him on their sat phone.

When they get back (seriously all head to toe in mud) we figure it be best to wait till next day to ask him, and were not liking our chances, he getting bit sick of pulling tourists out of bogs by now understandably. Next day comes and we put it to him something like this,

“mate we just drove bout 3000 k’s from Ipswich to come to our favourite spot and we don’t wanna turn back now coz of the bloody mud, we know we can make it! (we sooo didn’t know if we could make it or not). After thinking a bit he gives us a smile and few pointers and some extra recovery gear and says go for it, but ill be in darwin for a while so I wont be out to rescue your asses for over a week hope yous have got plenty of waterâ€. We say all good mate and are over the moon.

Anyways long story short it took us over a day and a half of driving digging winching and chainsawing trees (no one had cleared the last 50 killometres of track and there was like three cyclones over the property during the wet season) just to drive 80k’s to the fishing camp.. seriously it was like every five hundred metres we would have to get out to clear trees. I swear I hate cyclones. And when we get there after having to walk the last six k’s to the camp coz we couldn’t find the track due to wet season growth. Finally crack an icy cold beer ( who am I kidding I had been drinken the whole bloody way). Have look around and say oi #### ! wheres the bloody boat ramp gone!!!!

this was his boat ramp AFTER we spent hours digging it out. and we still had to winch the one of the cars and boat out at the end of the week. although one got out alright boat and all no winching.

a 45 cm trevor for bait casted out on my 20 kg rod with 100 pound braid, man what ever took this had some seriously strong ########! pulling power never landed as the braid dug in on its self and binded until twang! snap. spewin. there were so many predators out at night when we slept in the tinnies at the mouth. every shark and crock seemed wanna pice of our catch or bait as soon as the sun went down

All up it was an awesome trip of a lifetime. Kinda wished we had taken more fish shots, but weren’t so keen on taking the 2 thousand dollar camera out in the boat to much, specially with a few beers under the belt. Would have kinda hoped some bigger barra to but now im just bein picky. Any way thanks for reading guys. sorry bout the long rambling report , so much happened and ive probably left out at least half of it. Cant wait till next year!!

PS. if you ever go up there make sure you take 786 cans of RID. coz i looked like a lepper at the end of the trip!

Haven't really posted much on here, lately, but seriously the couple of threads you have posted about this adventure have been unreal!

PS - you have seriously big ones to sleep in a boat at night with crocs that size around!

Great and fantastic report, Jon!

Don't worry about the long report, it's good cos you've brought us to the place... and back.. :)

Amazing, your determination... I liked best was the part when you left the boat ramp and "ooi!!!"

You guys are Cool, man...

Thanks for sharing,

Cheers, Jonathan

man... good trip. One day I'll do one of those crazy outback, drag a boat and get bogged fishing adventures. Just need to do it with someone that has some sort of bush knowledge... mine only extends as far as what I've seen Malcolm Douglas do on TV :D hahaha.
