Any one here deal in batteries? On the hunt after my dc give up the ghost,Now after trying to get one through work I have the choice of a powertec 120 amp for $170 and a acdelco 110 amp for $250

Now I really don't know too much about em though I am leaning toward the acdelco only cos I have had heard good things about them even though its 10 amps less will that make muck of a difference? Oh forgot to mention its for a 55lb bow mount

Cheers

if you go to actual battery factories they sometimes have "blemished" batteries for sale dirt cheap, blemished being the battery works absolutley fine just scratch or blemish to the case. they wont leak as they dont sell anything that has a deep enough mark to be worried about the integrity of the battery , they just dont look good on the shelf in retail outlets so they sell them cheap them selves.

be keen to find out as well... $170 for a 120amph seems a little on the cheap side?

my search on the forum will bring me to century at carole park, but have found whilst doing my homework the prices can vary significantly.

I agree to disagree KRISO I sell century batterys and have had customers come and tell me they bought a battery at the factory and paid more for a battery then I charge fitted. I strrongly recomend Century batterys But they are not cheap can get you a price tomorrow if your intrested. Personaly I would stay away from any no name brands whats good with a 2-3 year warranty when your 60km offshore an it craps its self. Also have a look at CTEK battery chargers you can perminatly attach it to the battery and dissconnect- reconnect as required and can stay on charge for months at a time.

Both powertec and ac delco are american batteries.

The yanks seem to have the reputation ofr quality batteries. Some of the malasian and chinese ones just do not last the distance.

The price of the yank ones do vary a fair bit depending when they were imported as the dollar has been up and down a fair bit lately.

What type are you looking at ? Lead acid, gel or agm.

If you can afford it go for the agm.

ray: thanks for clarifying, i thought the agm were the better ones to get in regards to durability? particularly so for marine applicatoins.

Eug you are correct I got my batteries crossed. The get batteries do not like a high charge rate.

Sonnenschein are a gel battery and are widely used for installations that require very good reliability but cost the earth.

as far as i can see mate this thread is about batteries not chargers...

but if your looking for a decent charger look at either minn kota, c-tek or xantrex.. you will pay a premium for all of these but theyr top quality

ohh i see what your saying now... sorry mate completely missunderstood

what size batteries are they and how many? also do you want a charger you can leave onboard or a portable one? i would really look at a minn kota onboard charger

you can use it as a portable charger if wanted.. here is a bit of info about it:

MK210A On Board Battery Charger. For 12V Systems OR 24V Systems using 12V batteries. For permanent on board installation & charging ONE or TWO batteries. 10 Amp total output. 3 stage charging. Short circuit, reverse polarity & ignition protection.

retail for about $290 and have never seen one with a problem

  • 2 weeks later...

guys give flexo (dayle) from the site a call at B select at springfield they are century battery dealers and i can personally recommend century AGM deep cycle batteries as one of the best on the market, things to look at are the actual percentage of power you are able to extract from your battery from memory century's are rated at 85 - 90% which is very good compared to other battery's on the market. also AGM batteries have a better service life then any other deep cycle battery so while being a bit more expensive up front you will certainly save money in actual battery life. also AGM batteries can be charged at any charge rate where flooded cell and other types are very sensitive to the charge rate and can be damaged easily. I know B select @ springfield (they are independently owned) are very interested helping out AFO members so definately worth calling them before you buy any century products just be sure to ask for Dayle and tell him your from AFO.
