Decided to head to the mouth of the brissy on Sunday Avro with the hope to get my first legal squire from the mouth after reading all of these awesome reports. Launched the boat around 1:30 after being checked over by the water police (before I had even left the boat ramp). Headed down to BP terminal to drop some pillies. After finally getting the anchor to hold and dropping some lines I decided to flick my favourite metal mojiko lure. Its kind of a slug but with a spinner on the back. First cast and bang I pulled up this lil fella. (ps if any one is there my favourite lure got left hang from a pylon, finders keepers.

Not much luck here so headed to the next spot. For the next few hours we caught about twenty squire but all to small. A couple of flathead and whiting too.

Finally moved down to the wharves for the night time runout and after a big stingray and some sizzling runs my mated landed this badboy on a 5 kilo cheapo rod with a broken reel. Totally stoked. He was willing to share luckily so I had some beer battered Jew last night, was a delicious fish that’s for sure.

he measured 84 cm and was roughly five to six kg.

Ps the police told me im not alowed out of the mouth without flares. Is this true as I always thought it was 2Nm out before you need flares and epirb etc.?

Mate that is a sweet jewie... no worries on the segmentation, you can get around that by uploading your photos to photobucket if you want.

New combo could be in order though to treat yourself after that.

well done mate nice jewie. You need flares in partially smooth waters i.e the bay, and the epirb is 2nm offshore as you stated

flares and v sheet required in the bay, the flares required are inshore ones not the parachute ones that are required for off shore. oh and the flares must be in date

what did you catch the jew on?

caught on the faithful i q f pillie. also note on inspection of his gizzards the only food present were more chunks of pillies. possibly from the berly trail? might also add that there were two whole pillies soaked in the same vacinity but the jew was caght on and inch by inch chunk if that helps. ( i was quite suprised)
