New 8 Weight Fly Reel Advice

Recommended Posts

hey

Am looking at buying a new fly reel for my 8 weight. something with a half decent drag and good size arbor for taking on something a lil more substantial than bream and whiting. ie, mac tuna, schoolie macs, snaps, jew, etc.

i don't get out fly fishing every week, so not looking to blow a lot of money on it but don't want to fall for the advertising either on a piece of pretty crap that can't hold up to a mac tuna run. So if anyone has the knowledge for something that will stand the salt and a few good runs, please let me know!

thanks in advance

I have 3 fly reels for sale.

1; olympic 420 8cm dia perfect condition

2; rapidex j.w. young & sons 10cm vgc

3; unknown antique 10cm gc

I am asking $150 for all 3.

these were my grandfathers, who passed them on to me.

if your keen send me an email & I will post some pictures.

Mate, I'd go a bio craft 7/8, they are fantastic reels for the money - around $165 I think. I've only ever used the lighter models, the 5/6 and 3/4 and their drag has held up very nicely on 60cm flathead and 50cmish tailor. I can only imagine the drag on the bigger model would be up for the task. They have ARB bearings in them also so salt water safe.

Hope this helps ;)
