hi there, just wondering if someone might have an idea as to whats happening with my outboard. Outboard is easy to start...however when outboard put into gear it just konks out, starts ok, then you put into gear and it just konks out again..it then vibrates ...however once you have pushed the gear up and down the power then kicks in...and no issue after that? just changed the plugs as well.

yamaha 70hp two stroke.

any ideas and help appreciated?

Hi, had the same problem with my Yamaha 40hp. I had to get someone to remove carbi's and give them a clean out as due to being run with dirty fuel from previous owner there was a whole heap of crap floating around in the carbi's. These little bits of gunk would occasionaly block the fuel jets and hence the stalling when trying to idle. It cost me around $300 to get this fixed. My Yami is a 3 cylinder 2 stroke....It hasn'tissed a beat since...

Try

1) to locate the "in gear lock out switch". If there is enough play in the gear selection lever the motor might be "tripping" out thinking the boat is being started in gear.

2)Maybe the idle is to low.

3) had this one too, - check that the "kill" layard switch is not loose in the forward controls. Moving the gear lever moved the kills switch enough to activate.

Ideas to try - not saying it is the cause though!
