i've been looking at getting a light baitcaster to round off the gear (always had plenty of heavy setups but not really ideal having a broomstick for throwing and rolling light crankbaits etc)

snapped up the perfect stick for it off matt hill (loomis cbr783 crankbait stick) very lightweight 8-14lb medium tapered rod, bendy enough to pass as a 4-10lb stick until you stick the backbone in hard

no use having an extra rod with no reel to go on it so i looked around for a light baitcaster, options were alphas-r, alphas 103, pixy in the daiwa lineup and aldebaran, core 50mg, scorpion 1000xt in the shimano lineup

bit afraid of saltwater with the alphas's and the magnesium shimanos so i opted for the 2010 scorpion 1000xt, which is more or less an aluminium version of an aldebaran

having owned the 1500xt (jdm version of curado 200) previously i know they're well built quality reels, the main difference is the spool in the 1000, very lightweight great for light lure work. same spool as in aldebaran.

very small profile and matches superbly to the loomis, setup casts light lures such as an sx60 very well

drag on the scorpions is very smooth and powerful for a tiny 190g reel. reel is spooled with 10lb powerpro and will mostly be used on average jewies, squire, anything where the 20lb setups are overkill
