most glow in the dark materials I have seen usually have to be exposed to light for some time to absorb it, then the light radiates from the material.

If you took this out at night I doubt it would glow.

True, but if its been sitting out in the sun it will glow for many hours if not most of the night. Easy to charge it up with a spot light.
