Live mullet, live prawn or live herring with the cast net.

Maybe the bait is a bit thin in this cold weather so you could go green prawns from Woolworths, fish on high then the outgoing.

If your wanting bream use a lighter bait rig, like 10 lb mainline.

If your after bigger fish go an 14 lb mainline with a 30lb leader.

Not too sure what your doing but good luck.

cheers

hahaha! Jeff, they won't get that joke.

Try placing a couple of shrimp traps around the bank and throw out any prawns you catch unweighted on a rising tide. Should find a bream or threadfin salmon. I wouldn't go much over 8lb line though

you can catch cobia there

In the day like 200 years ago, you would have to wonder what lurked in that river; that far up. I mean in this age of high traffic and poor water quality and low vegetation we still see some unusual species ie. snapper at Bulimba, Grunter at St Lucia, Flathead and Bream at colleges.

cheers

Hey mate. All these types of fish have been caught at that pontoon by my mate and I.

As said by a previous poster there are plenty of shrimp hiding under the pontoon so dropping a shrimp trap over the side will usually find a few. The flathead we caught down there was on a live shrimp on an unweighted light line. We have also used large strips of mullet or eel flesh on heavier line when chasing after bullies down there. Eels also seem keen to go after any large fleshy baits.

As for tides we have caught fish on the incoming and outgoing but i prefer to head down there to hit the top of the incoming if i can.

As with most spots some days are good fun others are very quiet but that's fishing :)
