Fishing Clubs

To be honest as a member here I have no need whatsoever of a fishing club.

You get out what you put in here.

By linking up with people from this site over the years I now have so many fishing mates (many who have become awesome all round mates as well) that I literally cant make time to fish with them all!

Thank god for the events a mass catch ups :P

Do you just talk about fish and reports and stuff like that

This particular club has monthly meetings at the local pub. They do raffles and stuff like that as well. Not much in the way of reports, most of the fishing chat happens on the trips.

What they do is they have a points system. There is a trip or comp every month and they keep a tally of who has caught what and what it weighed etc. Mainly just an excuse to get away. Not really catch and release friendly with the points system though. Just a social sort of a club I guess.

Still reckon Bfo is the best fishing club to be in, so easily accessible to everyone.

The events Bfo puts on are top class as well, well worth getting along to one if you haven't already done so. Then you'll be hooked!

i am a member of pba, power boat anglers, and we have a meeting once a month with free pizza put on the table, we also do 2 rainbow trips a year over long weekends and a trip to 1770 for a week once a year, we have a cordinator for every trip for every weekend of the year, and encourage deckie spots to those without boats, the guys there are easy goin and know a lil bout catchin the odd fish. when we go away the club offers meals in the way of a bbq in the evenings and a marque with bbq tables etc is available to members at no cost, if ever needed, must be returned in as borrowed condition is all , but definately worth it would be my call, but not all clubs are equal! pba i can say is a friendly bunch of guys n gals, yes gals too.

I'm also looking at joining a fishing club, but really don't know whats close to springwood.

Don't get me wrong, this site is great, and i have learnt so much from it, but its more a social thing when you meet people face to face, and also lets you have a good idea of who you will be going fishing with, rather then a text based person, but in saying that, there are alot of good people on this site also, but for me, unless i have seen the person, Im abit shy to fish with them, and I really want to get out more and do more fishing with other people.

I'm shy too and prefer dogs to most people, however I found meeting people at the BRC a good way for a shy man. Enter. Fish on your own. Say the odd hello and meet a couple at the presentation to break the water. Much easier than walking into a new club with a lot of new people. At least you can get a bit of an idea about AFO members before you meet. Most of the AFOers I've met were better in real life

its one thing to read about ellicats boat doing a runner, but a heck of a lot funnier to watch the drama unfold. The bream social might be a good place to start a bit for a bit of a meet and greet, if Origin is not an option for you.

My local RSL has a fishing club and do a monthly overnight camping trip all over the place. Good bunch, but this 'club' suits me better.

afo suits me ...........if i don't get out for a fish i can read reports etc .

between afo and the member socials (like the AFO wanderers )it gives me enough outings and meets.

a large group of people from all different walks of life ,so always interesting .

like ellicat i like the company of my dogs or my family ,but shy i am not .(more so when i have had a few no shyness at all)hehe.

first meet was the kooka shark social meet about 5 guys when i turned up .

after that there no stopping me ,every comp /social /meet up ,there is a few u know and some new ones every time ,so its easy to say hello to those u know and meet new people .

i just like to talk /chat i reckon its one of the good things of life ,having a chat over a beer or around the camp fire .so u can't be shy when u like to talk .

when i first joined AFO i was still suffering form depression and anxiety ,i would not go near people in real life ,just chat on the net .the chatting on the net for 3 months and getting to know people a bit then meeting them helped .

after about 6 months i was back to my normal self ,chatting ,meeting people and running a muck .

wow Davo so personal mate. well done. I agree with your sentiments.

I was going through a tough separation a while ago and had not been fishing for a 20 years. I am so glad I got involved in this site. I was shy in the first place and just read the posts for a few months. I quickly got the feel for the people on the site. Now if someone says lets do it, I say why not. I have meet some great people so far and have had unknown deckies on both my AFO competitions. The hardest part is deciding to do it. Although it was a poor movie I try now to take a leaf out of the "yes man" and just do it. Most folks are good people especially on this site and at the end of the day U always have fishing to talk about if you get uncomfortable about making conversation. The first time is the hardest time. Anyway good luck mate - hope to catch up with you at a social. Cheers Ted

Thanks Guys. I will get out to a competition soon I hope. the only thing is I dont have a boat so I would have to have a deckkies spot on a boat. But more then looking forward to a comp to meet more mates

Cheers Guys

Shame your not coming to origin as there are tonnes of people land based fishing as its a perfect river for it.

The details will be up for the Brisbane River classic soon after Origin so stay tuned.

Always a lot of deckie spots up for grabs to those that are keen.

There is also the Bream Social coming up that a lot of people are attending.

Cheers.

Well said Davo, I'm much the same I even had a T shirt printed saying " The more people I meet the more I love my dog" since being on AFO I've met some great blokes and had some great trips and I'm sure more in the future, I would like to see more trips and comps organised by members which I am sure will happen :)
