Internet phone help

Scope

Recommended Posts

G'day guys, got a question for all the tech-savvy fishos out there.

Just wondering what the best phone for accessing the internet is. I kind of need it for doing some very basic banking stuff. Looking at getting a couple of them.

Price is not really an issue - its more reliability I am after.

Only one I can think of off the top of my head is the iphone.

Are there better ones than this??? (maybe a blackberry or nokia or something along those lines)

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks - Jono

I have a Nokia N900 and I love it. It has a linux operating system which means speed isn't usually an issue. I can download apps that I don't have to pay for and I can even over clock the processor if I want to run programs faster... just like you can on a computer ;-) Yes it is a bit of a geek phone but as I work in IT, I'm apparently a geek so that works out quite well :P

It has a full querty keyboard that will take some getting used too but now that I'm used to it I find it quite good and easy to use. If you get a phone to browse the web, make sure you get a good data plan so you don't get stung by going over your data limit - it can be expensive! The feature I love about this phone is that I can take photos or copy videos to the phone and then connect it up to a tv if\when I'm travelling or on holidays!

It has a full touch screen and everything is there on the screen for you - I think it's just a matter of how technical you want it to be. It will certainly do everything you have asked about and more if you want to delve further. I even browse this web site when I'm out and about at times to see if anyone else is out fishing! Very handy if you want to check out the tides too!! ;-)

Regardless of what phone you are thinking of, I'd certainly go and check out whirlpool.net.au Under the mobile phone section there is a wealth of up to date information there on most mobile phones with personal experiences and questions relating to different handsets.

Personally I'd stay away from the N97 and N97 mini, there are numerous problems with both handsets but each to their own. Good luck!

Shorty :)

I have an iphone but for different reasons than all the sheep out there :P

Banking is easy with each bank putting up different apps - eg Westpac online banking app; so easy to sign-in, check balances, transfer money, pay money out etc

Me too I use mine for pawn. :P

I feel completely safe using my iphone for internet banking. Should I or shouldn't I? That I cannot answer. Not enough money in my accounts to worth worrying about anyway.

Thing is the apple OS X has always been a robust operating system on Par with Linux, of course in the computer world there has always been a price difference, Linux is free and will run on anything Macs cost a shitload because its hardware not just software

.

But with the new advent of mobile devices, I think the iphone is a very competitive. Both Linux and Apple (Mac OS X) is what I would be choosing between.

Don't know about the rest, but I have heard some criticism of the iphone apps being so locked down (which might not be a bad thing when it comes to security).

the wife just got the samsung galaxy s a couple of weeks ago, its a fantastic machine. 1gig processor, 4 inch screen, 16gb built in memory and expandable to 32gb. tonnes of apps (even has the paper toss one). it's built on the andriod OS.

i work in the comms industry and all the boys at work had been raving about it for a few months before it was released and are all upgrading to it when their contracts expire.

check out the Android site, lot of crap kiddie apps there but it is a Google software, Linux based, and there are some other apps there (even if they do claim bug fixes, which shits me to tears).

Think you got a choice of IPhone or Andriod.

As for banking it appears that most major banks internet banking is set up for IPhone and Android compatibility, so its your Bank that would be supplying the banking software, as most mobiles simply connect to it through a browser..

BTW. I own a 25 dollar phone :P

cheers
