How much are you prepared to spend on lures?? I know you get what you pay for in most cases but I just cant seem to spend the big bucks for the top name lures!! $1-$15 is reasonable but anything higher and I just cant do it!!!! What are you prepared to spend?

Hahaha Stop trolling! I'm a bait angler first then a lure angler second!! Live and fresh baits have worked better for me than any lure has.. This isnt to say lure fishing dosnt work, I just prefer bait fishing. HOW EVER!!!!! Since catching some good fish of late on poppers and divers, minnows and soft plastics I am starting to get obsessed!!! hahaha

You're right It's a big ask paying big bucks for a lure but there are always more reasonable alternatives that work just as well i.e the Threadybusters I got for 15 a pop worked great on my Mooloolaba trip. Most of the time there's no need to go throwing Megabass or Jackall around the salt IMO, but I wouldn't go near the nasty kmart stuff.

Get what you pay for - it's as easy as that. That said - I've caught quite a lot of fish on the super bream $7 lures, if im fishing somewhere new i try it out first to get a feel for snags as i'd rather lose that then the more exxy ones haha

My 2 cents worth - I've caught some awesome fish on the "nasty K-mart stuff" (super bass and super bream - just make sure you upgrade the trebles) as well as big $ Jackalls and the like..... Horses for courses - I tend to stick with the cheapo's for places I have never fished before as it's less painful when you loose one, but I also have spots where the super bass IS the go to never fail (when everything else does) lure for me. I also find the middle of the road RiverToSea and Strikepro lures are great value for $.

I have a bad habit of only using cheaper ( love halco's ) lures most of the time as I'm too scared of losing an expensive one. I've caught more bream on a Halco Laser Pro 45mm then my Jackall Chubbies and sx 40's. But thats only cause they get used more. Really quite stupid when I think about it, spending more money on lures I'm too ofetn scared to use incase I loose them getting caught on some structre, so I only use them when there's little chance of losing them, which means hardly any structre thus hardly any fish... Excuse my while I give myself an uppercut

I buy Ecogear and Jackal at times, they look nice and swim ok.

Think my max is $25.00 (but prefer the $8.00 to $15.00 price range), and I wince at the register when the total comes up (not to mention when a buy a few packets of plastics, fluorocarbon leader, braid and TT'S to go).

So yes I buy expensive lures but at a painful price.

The choice is so huge you really have to know what you want, for years I went in and bought lures based on looks and then realised that those stupid letters before the name actually meant something ie. deep/shallow,silent/rattler,floating/sinking/suspending,long cast..ect

But in the end a flathead will hit anything as will a bream at times, as will a lot of fish, I can say I have not caught more fish on a cheap atomic as I have on a Jackal.

So before I get flamed (I believe some lure prices are over the top but now realise its horse for courses), I would say if you got money and it gives you a new option on the water then go for it, buy an expensive lure, just don't get caught in the trap of rushing out and buying another because the first came up nix and the other one claims more fish.

Well that is my great rant.

cheers

Go the soft plastics... then it's definitely worth the $10 - $15, as they come in packs of 10 or so... otherwise for hardbodies... would have to say i would not spend more than $20. Superbream lures at Kmart for $7 work a treat on a variety of fish from bream to Jew / thready.

I tend to like the Superfrogs... have caught 4 threadies in one night on em, and they only cost $8. Still to lose one yet! Hard and sturdy and swims great. definitely worth it.

Yes, jackals, ecogears etc are all very nice and pretty until you lose it... :S

Other lures that are very worth the buy are the berkely frenzy range.

Could go on for days talking about different types but that'll do.

Cheers

There are huge prices attached to lures such as Megabass etc. However if you go to sites such as: www.ichibantackle.com you can get these lures second hand at a fraction of the price. The quality of the lures I have purchased there have been excellent.
