Never EVER polish your car.

Decided that the old Hilux was looking a bit dirty and tatty so I decided to give the old girl a wash and polish. ( Its only 2 years since I did it last)

I cant rush into these things so started to do it panel by panel.Yesterday wife said its starting to look good but be carefull itll blow up on you.

Started it up this morning and it ran a bit rough and was blowing a lot of white smoke which I put down to the cool damp morning ,and I headed off up the sunny coast.

Going round one of the numerous roundabouts coming into Noosa and the B thing stalled. Gee its interesting when you loose power and power steering at the same time.

Restarted it and it was running very rough so called a towie and its now sitting in the yard of the local Toyota dealer who is rubbing his hands with glee whilst he is working out how much he can fleece me for.

Luckily son is on holidays and he drove up to Noosa and picked me up and has given me a loan of his coon so I can still go to the SOO.

Moral of the story

Never ever wash and polish your car and keep your wife away if you ever do so.

Cheers

Ray

Elicat I also blame you for saying its a while since you have had a Ray disaster story. :S

You can't blame me and you can't blame the missus and you can't blame having sections of your car clean.

You should have known the girl would have a heart attack when she by-passed the NPD turnoff !

Having said that I too was going to give the car a wash after a few trips to the bush, but now I'll wait.

Also I will be keeping an eye on my back for you at SoO just in case

Let me know if you need anything taken down that wont fit in the replacement vehicle. I've still got a bit of room spare.

$8,000.00... ?? Just go to a 4X4 wrecker, buy a low km one and pay a mechanic to drop it in.

cheers

I have to aggree with the philosophy of never washing or polishing your car.......

Bought a petrol Cruiser wagon new in 1996, never been washed or polished.

Recently ticked over 510,000 klm's and to date have replaced tyres (3 times), radiator(once) and normal plugs leads, hoses and belts etc.

It tows 17ft 1/2 cab most weeks and 2-horse float to races at least 3 times a week. So its been hard k's. Would quite confidently fill it with fuel and head of for Perth without lifting the bonnet.

So, now I can prove to my wife that there is scientific evidence against washing/polishing vehicles.

Thanks for that evidence guys!
