End Of Year Road Trip!

I think we shall dub this trip: "There and back again". Hope someone gets the nerdy reference.

In short Tanya and I are taking a much anticipated road trip in December/January this year.

The aim will not be as some people prefer to cover as much ground as possible, but rather to cover a smaller ammount but cover it well. Hiking and fishing will be a priority for the trip.

We have a very rough idea of the various legs of the trip so far which are as follows.

Brisbane to Yamba.

Yamba to Gosford.

Gosford to the Hawkesbury Region.

Hawkesbury to maybe Tamworth.

Taworth to a little place I found around Glen Innes on the Severn River.

Glen Innes to Maybe Stanthorpe.

Stanthorpe Home.

So simply its a trip down the east coast to the Hawkesbury and back to Brisbane via the inland New England route.

The length of time we stay at each place will be dictated by friends we are visiting and fish we are catching.

If anyone has done much explosring around any of these aras dont hestitate to share your experiences. Also if you have found any hidden gems along this general route please let us know! We will be relying a lot of heresay and blind exploring for this one which is another reason we are taking it slow :)

Good to see that SOO fever is rubbing off on you and you are interested to see more of what my great southern state has to offer.

Sounds like a great trip with plenty of sights to be seen.

We do an annual 'outback trip' but we cover 3500km in 7 days ie. Camerons Corner and return, or Longreach and return. Good to see, but long days in the saddle.

I think Armidale may be a bit far north for trout.

I've done similar routes to your draft plan on a few occasions. I'll put some thought into a few recommendations when I've more time (after Origin). Tamworth wouldn't be on my list though lol. Nor would Stanthorpe - staying west of there can put you into some magnificent countryside and National Parks with great fisheries.

Google Kwiambal National Park as a "for instance". (I think the Landsbergs did a trip there at one stage ???)

Long meandering road trips are best done before you have little Gorries too.

I'm envious.

Here's a link to some good piccies of Kwiambal

Cheers guys.

I will be looking all this sort of stuff up and looking up the maps as well.

Sounds great.

I will certainly look further afield ellicat as well.

Stanthorpe is a bit of a must though to jump on a wine tasting bus just before we get back to keep the mrs happy :)

Will hopefully do this at least twice, once somewhere further south as well.

now that look like a place to hang out fish ,swim ,camp for a week .nice .

nice 1 gus a road trip is sweet .

i was trying to put one together in 2007 and 2008 .

plan was a 8 week trip with about a week in each spot .

start at deepwater national park and work out way back down the coast ,with a trip to Frazer island for a week .

but both years i spent to much $ and it got put off ,but still did a few small camps trips for a week or 2 over the 8 week period .

last year and this year had work commitments and no coin .

i have a new plan now ,camping every 2nd or 3rd weekend and 4 trips a year for a week to somewhere.

Are we talking Trout?

i have been trout fishing in dumaresq dam just outside of armidale, maybe a little warm in summer, but definatly a chance with the long wand. Its a small dam but very fishable from land.

sounds like fun mate good luck!
