took the boat down to the mighty bremer river  and fish the ipswich stretch in search of bream  i know i would not eat any thing outta there either!!

we used peeled woolies prawns and caught a couple of catties first up, but it didnt take long before we started getting bream, they are very healthy bream but we did not get any size about em. still we got what we came for, all so got a few freshy eels .

and dropped what felt to be good sized bream.

will give it another go to see if we can pull a corker out of there like i used to when i was a kid

i all so reckon that the ipswich council should get them selves some rubbish and debris traps like they have on the coast, the floating ones , it would take maybe 3-6 months of daily clearing of the traps and the river would clean up a heap. the area is rocky rugged structure, with very snaggy looking rock bars along the stretch near the town bridge, and i am hoping to try some sp's and hb's to see how many bream will take a lure in this area. there is a lil bit of visability on low tide and it has a green clearish look instead of coffee brown. 105_1592_600x800.jpg

That's cool as Wes. It's surprising how many bream actually live in the middle to upper river. Always wondered about the Bremer. I always thought Summer is heaps better for these reaches, so in my opinion you've done well. Surely there's the odd Thready and a few Flathead in the Bremer to?

Nice one Wes. It takes ages to get ride of the slim from the net. How do you find that type of net? Thinking of getting one for barra.

the net has been good except all the threadies that have been in it the frame gave way, hence the black duct tape repair

i use the local banana prawns and peel my self, dont fancy the import stuff, prefer to use what prawns are in the systems which is banana prawns, i wouldnt worry to much about infecting other prawns as they arent eating them, besides that not all bait in tackle shops is from australia, as many pillies come from indonesia and bno restriction on them.

but interesting thought that i will look into for more info.

cheers

wes

Hey mate, should be careful using prawns from woolies or coles as DPI have linked imported raw prawn products to the spread of infection amongst our local prawn populations, it could become a major problem for our local fisheries.
oh and for a laugh you did read i was fishing in the bremer river which is in the top 10 worst rivers in australia for bacteria and pollution

hey good to see somone else on this site fishing the good ol bremer, i usually hit up twice a week in the warmer months. but usually stick to land based as i dont know the locations of any rock bars and the vis is pretty poor. i often get big bream up to 40 cm from the cribb park stretch and some threadies too. i think that it is underated but still hold some good fish coz it doesnt get hit as hard as the brissy does.

ps send me a pm if your heading out in the bremer if you dont mind somone tagging along in my boat

will do , as its the 40cm bream that has me down there, i use to catch them over 40 in the younger days around the area . i might have a spot for the threadies to as the sounder lite right up in a certain area ;)
