After a few smaller trevs, it was time for a change of scenery. I moved to another spot a little further on and began casting up against some small structure. On about the third cast of the skin blue Armour Shad, I picked up a nice baby Cod.

Next I began throwing the new Pontoon 21 crackjack around some standing timber. I was really impressed with the action of these lures, particularly the way it flashed as it swam in the clear water. Apparently the fish were too and it wasn't long before the Trev's started going off over it.

I found it was best to vary the technique between a slow rolling retrieve and a twitch-twitch-pause type retrieve.

What impressed me most with these lures was the casting distance I could get out of them, you can really cover a lot of ground for such a small lure.

The rest of the session continued in much the same fashion with the Trevally really smashing the crackjack hard. I actually got busted off by what I’m guessing was either a fairly big trevally or a small tailor, who liked it so much he decided to keep it.

After that I decided it was time to head back to Manly, slightly annoyed about losing one of my new go-to lures, but happy enough with the days fishing.

Thanks for reading - Jono
