Leader Line

Not reel familiar with CTC but in general I'd say 8lb would be fine. Much better chance of keeping your lures when a big flattie or something grabs it. Just my opinion, I'm sure others out there have other ideas. You could always compromise and go 6lb

Trial and error is the only way to go sometimes. Try the 4lb, if you get broken off a few times go up to the 6lb. The lighter you can fish the better especially for whiting and bream. The fish themselves won't break you off, its what they run into underwater that will do the damage, 4lb should land anything in an estuary (apart from Mr Jack).

I am only telling you guys what I got told ha ha... I am hoping 8lb will be enough for a flathead but saying that i wont have to retrieve the fish like a bull at a open gate

That's always the way it is mate. Lol. Some heavier leaders will affect the action of artificials, but I doubt 8 Pnd will make too much of a difference. Most of the Flatties I have caught have been on 8 Pnd Flurocarbon.

In saying that, I've seen some lucky people catching 80cm plus Lizards on 4 Pnd Fluro and so forth. Just gotta take it easy and hope the fish hasn't really taken that lure down

Mate if you're fishing in cabbage tree creek for bream and whiting then 4lb is going to be heaps youll hook a lot more bream. You mentioned you are using a lure clip and i just think this defeats the purpose of using a light, stealthy leader. If you are going to use a lure clip, then i recommend using a 10lb leader or so cos youll hook a lot more flathead than you will bream
