Unexpected Catch Over a Beautiful Weekend

After being sick for a week with the flu, was finally well enough to go for a fish over the weekend.

Since I wasn't really 100% I decided to head to my usual spot at Bulimba for a quiet fish over the high tide.

Bream was biting and managed to land a few. Then after 2 hours had a massive bite and the reel was clicking away. After a good fight with light bream gear, managed to land this little beauty. Was left a little speechless not expecting this from Bulimba but am always happy to add to a species list caught at that spot.

Fish was 40cm on the mark.

Then headed off to Manly with a friend that just recently started fishing. Decided to get him addicted to HB lures as soon as possible and figured catching pike would be a great way. Always nice to have someone to shop lures with i reckon.

Mission was a great success with 28 pike landed. We stopped by BCF on the way back and he picked up some lures!!

Are pike good eating? People around me that were fishing were keeping them.

Great weather, good company, and a new species to the list from Bulimba.

Nice one, I have seen a few reports of snapper from Bulimba, they are not that uncommon there.

As for pike some say they are good eating some say they are not.

I cooked one up once I caught at Wellington point Jetty and it had the texture and taste of wet cardboard, most disgusting fish I have ever attempted to eat.

It was a Yellow Fin Pike, I suggest using a Pike recipe if your going to try it out.

Cheers
