Pine River 8/8/10 Great Morning

With the boat all in one piece for the first time in months and todays forcast looking solid all week it was time to head out with the intention of getting some bream on HB.

I arrived at deep water bend at 5:30am to a empty carpark so this was encouraging and headed straight to the hornibrooke bridge. Spent a hour or so throwing gulp jerk shads and vibes around the pylons for one gut hooked toadie so decided to give the atomic hardz I got the other day a troll around the flats and it wasn't long before I was on to the first lizzard.

I'm such a tight arse with my fishing gear but splashing out on these hardz was a awesome idea that payed off well, Just one thing though... After inspecting the lure it struck me how much like a little toadie it looked I didn't think toadies were really on the menu?

So stoked with a fish in the esky I started making my way over to bald hills creek when my heavier rig buckled over and with a surprisingly decent fight up came a sole/flounder this was a first on lure.

Once in bald hills creek it didn't take long for the rod to dip again resulting in another lizzard now with 2 in the esky and and the river turning into an amuesment park I decided to call it a day, didn't get the bream I hoped for but the flathead were a welcome addition and the sole was a plesant surprise.

After a long wait at the ramp I was home and hosed by 11:00am.

Gear used was cheap shimano combo 2-4kg with 5lb fireline and atomic hardz for 1 lizzard and cheap abu garcia baitcaster combo 4-6kg with 20lb fireline and my favorite berkley frenzy lure (Heavy line I know but there's so much junk on the floor of the pine) for the other lizzard and sole.

Cheers for reading

Cam :)

yeah I have some successful lures that look like toadies, some of my favorites are short fat shape, brown with spots, they even swim like a toadie.

Always wondered about that myself.

Cheers

Yeah interesting isn't it? Would love to know if toadies get eaten by anything.

And cheers death ray

Both lizzards were close in size but noticably different markings IMG_0163_AFO-20100808.jpg

The one from Bald Hills Creek was just all brown and the one from over the other side of the pine had all the markings must have been a bartailed???

nice session whiskers.

the colour diffrence in the flatty could be the quality and clearness of the water. there colour will depend on the clarity of the water(dark water, dark colours/clearer water, lighter colours) that's my theory anyway.

cheers

Well Done,

I went to the Pine next to Bald Hills Rd at the boat ramp on Saturday afternoon just as the tide was on its final run in and managed to get a nice flattie of 42cm.I reckon I had another a few minutes later but alas it spat the hook. The Pine isn't a bad spot to fish at the best of times I reckon anyway.
