Back there again this morning with decky Graham Pflaum.

The plan was to bait up pots and do them every hour of so and see if the catch rate improved.

The plan worked very well with Graham Ending up with over a bucket and a half of tails.

We soaked a bait in between pulls without any interest so to avoid the dreaded donut we switched to gar gear and I brought home 6 very large ones that I have just finished eating. Delicious!

Very hard to keep alive.

Next NPD fix is Saturday.

Gong to concertrate on using some of Tom Barratts gidgee lures to try and snag a legal cod.

The gar are very good eating just scaled,headed and gutted them and cooked whole.The back bone justs lifts out and away you go.

I reckon the Gidgees look great for cod. One of his Ripples looks very similar to the old Tenterfield Dart and some of those bigger one's look great. Good luck.

I would love to see some of Ray and Taibs gar recipes in the recipe section.

I have tried a few times to do butterflied gar and once fish cakes with limited success. I have heard some many times that they are meant to be great eating but at the moment I view them as bait

What's the water colour like out there Ray ? I love those gar......when the bass shut down you can pretend your fishing for tiny little marlin ( watch them jump !!! )

The water is supprisingly clear. The gar are great fun especially for kids as they fight well for their size.

Cain they are stub nozed gar only grow to around 12 inches.

I think you may have come across Alligator gar mate...thank goodness we don't get those things out there !!! It would make wading the edges of the dam very interesting.

Another good day Ray! Mmm haven't had garfish in a while, fresh saltwater ones are just as nice as whiting if not better.

I like to prep them with the rolling pin, just deep fry or tempura then crunch away :laugh:
