Hervey Bay Fishing Charters..???

hey all!!

im heading up to Hervey Bay soon and was really wanting to go out on a fishing charter up there. Im not really after the really big stuff, just the reef fish, small tuna etc.

could anybody throw me the name of some charters they have been on and would reccomend, how much they cost, what you caught etc.

KJ charters from memory it was $220 for an overnight trip to the outside of fraser leaving from the boat harbour. There is also another charter called ally jay i know ive seen a couple of his articles in the fishing mag.

The Fighting Whiting is a small operator that doesnt go out far and hangs around the reefs, they do half days and is ok if you dont want to go too far.

I went down to the pier for a sticky beak and the water is really brackish looking (like a creek), I've been here for just over a year and its the first time I have seen it like this....reports from the pier was pretty much a poor showing of the ussual quality species. Me thinks it will take at least a couple of weeks for water quality to start getting back to what it was. If you are coming up in the next few weeks, and want some good fishing then I would go with a charter that gets out of the bay area for this reason alone.

I have just had a look at our local tourist guide and only found 2 little ones,

The first is the Fighting Whiting charging $70 for adults and then sliding scale from there (07) 4124 3377 All gear and bait supplied.

The second is Daytripper at $85 (and sliding scale for kids pens. etc) all gear and bait supplied www.herveybaydaytripper.com

I also spotted an ad for Pete Fry's Flyfishing check www.petesflyfishing.com.au for guided sportfishing with salt flies and lures, gear included.

mate the 3 major charter boats up in hervey bay are KJ fishing, Ally Jay fishing and the Princess2. from memory when i worked in a tackle shop there they were between 150-260 a day

it's 130 pp for a full day

7am to 3:30pm plus thy cook u a rib fillet lunch

all tea n coffee provided etc

Hi Christophagus, this reply is a bit old but just wondering how did you go on the Princess 2, where did the boat take you fishing and how was the boat trip? I have moved up there recently and looking for a charter boat in the area.

HI @Ed.. My brother-in-law used to deckie on the charter boats in Hervey Bay. I am in the Bay at the moment so I will ask him for his recommendation.  Are you looking for a day charter inside the Bay chasing pelagics and golden trevally etc, or a multi-day trip fishing offshore from Fraser?

I’ll probably see him tomorrow. I know Andrew Chorley’s Hervey Bay Fly and Sportsfishing is very well regarded for day trips. Not cheap but those guys know how to put you onto great fishing. I will report back after I have seen the bro-in-law.

Ok, so he says Princess 11 is a good charter at a good price, but there can sometimes be a fair bit of travel for not a lot of fish when fishing the reefs inside the bay. Hervey Bay Fly and Sportsfishing is a sure winner, but is definitely not in the same price range. Hope this helps.

@Ed. from what i remember it was a very slow boat, we didnt catch much. just a bit og bottom bashing

worththe extra money to go out s sports fising charter like fraser island guided fishing or Hervey bay sports fishing. the fishing with them is awesome and ive been back a few times with them
