Went to the dam this morning despite the woeful forecast.

Met Tye at the gate it was fairly calm at the ramp but as soon as we got into Koala Straight the breeze picked up but we didnt worry as its would only help blow us home. Got some shrimp out of shrimp pots and baited up the redclaw pots,

It was tpp windy to fish the drop off for bass so we headed off into the trees where it was out of the wind.

I picked up a tilapia first drop.

And that was the way it was for the next 4 hours. We ended up with 74 tilapia with quite a few around the 30cm mark,1 nice fat spangled, one tandanus , 10 gar and 9 turtles.

Knocked off around midday as the breeze was getting up and had to leave 3 redclaw pots untouched as the wind was too strong to get to them.

Sorry no more photos as the battery in my comera was flat. I think that Tye has some on his phone.

Ran into Beau at the ramp just as it started to thunder and pour rain.

Pretty pleased with myself now just have to dispose of 3 buckets of tilapia.

Cheers

Ted seemed to be a lot more smaller redclaw than normal today.

I balso christened a few new toys today.

THe electric winch that Brad gave me is marvelous. Pulls the boat straight up and no more spikey rope.

Also had a ball using the new soare that I got from Michael. Some of the larger tilapia were pulling some serious drag and it handled them very well. Going to fit it to the heartland that I am getting from Nads.

Nuggets fishing reports stated: heavy rain, gail force winds, dirty water, fishing trips cancelled everywhere, floods etc..... well it sounded like it was going to be a bad day of fishing, but who would of thought...

I know tilapia isnt much but what a Ripper of a Day!! As Ray mentioned, quite a few caught, but also a heap lost as well! Tilapia are much more fun than gar any day....

Well, further to add to the report, the fish were biting on both sides of the boat today, more so on ray's nice little outfit, and his new 1000 soare was performing very well!

Rain at npd is always welcome but not today! it showered, stopped, showered more, became rain and rained more. at one stage the rain drops felt like hail.

Redclaw numbers were a bit down, but nevertheless, still a great feed.

Thanks again Ray, always love goin to npd with you mate!

here are some pics

They will eat anything but I have found redclaw flesh works very well. No 6 long shank hook with just a small split shot to get the bait past the gar. You have to watch your line asw it floats down as they quite often hit bait on the way down.

I use long shank hook because quite often get a turtle as bycatch and a long shankhook is easier to remove.
