Hi all,

I'm looking at a heavy plastics combo to throw bigger plastics landbased and hopefully out in the bay. The combo I was looking at was a Shimano raider heavy snapper 5-10kg, 10-35gm lure weight, and matching it to a shimano stradic fi 4000-6000. I am looking for everyones thoughts On the combo and on what reel size that would be appropriate for this setup. I will be looking to spool it with 20lb braid.

Cheers

hjey mate i use a saragosa 4000 on the raider snapper light with 20lb braid, it works a treat in bay and all so deep 80-100mtr snapper fishing with 7in gulps and upto 2 oz tt jigheads. i have landed some nice snaps on it. all so works well flicking the slugs at mackeral in the bay and i reckon even the big long tail could be done on thjis combo!

What is your budget? How much 20lb braid do you want on your spool? How heavy are the slugs and soft plastics you want to cast? I have a Shimano raider heavy snapper 5-10kg, 10-35gm lure weight, and you can cast upto 100g no worries with 35g being to light for this rod for me.

I use the Raider Heavy Snapper basicly as a blue water rod with a 8000 saragosa spooled with 300m of 30lb fins and I also use it with my 8000 Baitrunner D spooled with 200m of 50lb fins.

I would go for fins 20lb hi-vis yellow, 150m will fit nicely on the stradic 4000. I also have all three of the Snapper raider rods, and the snapper light would be the way to go with a 4000 shimano reel. That will be a deadly combo for big plastics and not to heavy to chuck big plastics all day.

Hi Trav, without sounding like I am product pushing, my setup's sound just about perfect for the type of fishing you are trying to achieve (land based and boat). Have a look at these http://www.australianfishing.com.au/forum/102-custom-rods/304066-kustom-fishing-tools-duffrods-offshore-big-stix

Let me know if I can help with any of the specifics. 20lb the majority of my offshore gear as well.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I went and made my purchase tonight. After chatting with one of the salesman at jones's tackle I ended up going a little heavier and ended up with a Gary Howard MB705 (loomis blank) 15-30lb 3/8-1/4 lure weight matched with a stradic 5000fi loaded with 20lb bionic braid. Looks great and I'll find out how it feels tomorrow night...

Cheers
