Hi Everyone,

Spent the weekend up at Caloundra and managed to pull a little barra. Hit a rapala lure in the glass ghost colour. I had been jamming the lure around all afternoon hoping for a jack. Just prior to hooking the barra had manged to get an awesome visual of at jack shadow my lure and give it a bump. No hook up, but the disappointment faded quickly with what was about to unfold..

I know it is not totally random to get the odd barra here and there down this way these days but this is where the story takes a twist..... in the hour after catching this little fella manged to get another half dozen knocks that felt like barra hits to me. After word got around about the capture one of the locals came down for a yarn and he was standing next to me. He said that last year somebody had pulled a big girl from the centre of the creek only about 150 yards away.. Just after he said that I got another big hit followed by a big swirl on the surface.. The bloke, in his 70's straight away said "looks like there could be a couple more down there yet" and it was certainly looking that way to me as well..

Managed to hook another one briefly, small dance on the surface for 2 seconds, which felt like 1 hour, and hooks pulled.... I know the adrenaline was pumping but it appears that for whatever reason small school holding or just a couple of random fishing hanging out togeather. At present the water colour up there is pretty tanin and murky. I was pretty stoked that I manged to pull a barra down town caloundra. Better still get a couple more hits etc. Even more so knowing how many barra less I have had up north at times. Hardly think there is a thriving barra population in Caloundra and relize pretty lucky event but little fella did pit up a solid account.

As you can imagine pretty pumped to head back up, but it will not be for another couple of weeks yet...I am really really hoping to nail a jack on a lure up there, but for now will take seq barra as by catch for sure..

Tight lines everyone

Andy

Going by the pretty regular posts, you guys in SEQ seem to be getting steadily more and more barra every year, wonder if It'll be a thriving barra fishery in a few years time just like the king salmon are now? Seems like its almost viable to start specifically targeting them down there.

Yeah lads,

pretty happy to score one... Over the moon actually.. May have had kittens if I managed a second... The little fella put up a ok account of itself as well and was in good condition. The water up that way at present is a very tannin colour all the way around and looks like it will be for a while. Bit of dodgy photo work went on quickly, being close season. The photo is not all of what it seems. Got to keep some secrets.. hahahaha Those of you that have been up that way will relize only so many places to fish... being creative can help but LUCK and being in the right place at the right time is what got me this little fella I think...

Just hope I can recreate the fluke in a couple of weeks when I can get back up there... Not holding my breathe though.

Love the attitude Andy, just nailed a Barra as by-catch and you're hoping for a Jack. Way to go.
