First wild bass. (first bass full stop.)

Went out for a flick today with a couple of mates, just to some local creeks.

When they showed me where we were going to fish I thought they were having a lend of me.

We were all using hard bodies, 1 mid depth cubby, 1 popper, and I had one of my trusty old strikepro bass x in natural colour.

A short walk and a few casts later nothing but a few bumps. Then we found a nice sheer rock wall on the opposite bank, so put out a nice cast right next to the wall, slow roll back and my lure got smashed, it gave the drag a good work out, then i had landed my first bass. :woohoo:

It wasn't huge but gave a great account of itself in the water.:cheer:

Not much happend after that, so we went to this scabby little creek 2 mins away from my house.

There were fresh water mullet jumping every where, so we put a few casts in, and on my 2nd roll back a little bass snatched y lure right at my feet.

Scared the crap outta me.

Good arvo all in all.

What is the extent of the creeks that you would be able to find bass in? I would love to do some exploring but dont really know where to start.

Is it pretty much only the creeks that have run off from the huge dams or have they ventured up other creeks?

Like for example, would there be any point exploring something like kedron brook?

Dont want to sound stupid with these questions but i would really love to do some freshwater creek fishing, it looks like it would be a lot of fun but i just dont know where to start.

Mate, I didn't really no where to start. Had it not been for the blokes I was with I never would've even bothered looking at these 2 places.

1 of the 2 creeks i fished looked like a crappy little drain run off. I had seen f/w mullet in there before, but never gave bass a 2nd thought.

So my advice, just try it. Worse case there'll be no fish, but it's practice throwing lures around in some tight spots. And when you find a creek that is holding you won't be shy about throwing a $30 lure into a snag or such.

Good luck.
