Back to NPD again this morning with neighbour and Tai. And very happy to report that I didnt break a rod this time.

Launched to a perfect morning.I did feel a bit guilty as there was around 12 PRFMA members turned out for a working bee and there I was going fishing. But then again I think I had my priorities right.

Tai avoided a donut by catching a gar.

Peter by catching a turtle.

I caught a tandanus in a redclaw trap.

No other fish caught but I kept the boys busy sorting out the redclaw,

This is Tais share of the catch around 40 l of claw.

Bit of a slow trip back as the remote of my ipilot has died. Will get new battery for it tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem.

Cheers

thanks for today Ray! so nice to get out there again today after all thats happened with mother nature in the last month.

fish werent biting on either side of the boat today, but interesting bycatch with Ray's tandanus. She went back in safely.

Thankfully there was a few clouds, showers and a breeze to keep us cool today.

looking forward to next trip Ray!

Today at NPD landbased, I tried using both rockmelon and dog biscuits. On the first check of the pots, rockmelon won (same amount of redclaw but rockmelon pots had the bigger ones) So I decided to throw some rockmelon in with the dog biscuits. The next pull, the ones with both rock melon and dog biccies won. After that it was pretty even.

At somerset (about 8-10months ago) we tried citrus fruits (lemon and orange) to no evail. Luckily, as we were boating around we found half a rockmelon. Split it up and put it into 6 out of 8 pots. There was no doubt, the rockmelon did the trick.

I also have seen people use tinned catfood and cucumber successfully. Prolly best to have a variety of bait, chuck the pots at different depths until you find em :)

Cheers

Thanks Ray, have u ever tried potatoes or anything like that. I'm heading out to Somerset soon and thought I might have a go at some red claw. I'll certainly take some bickies with me

Mmmmm redclaw.... one day I am going to either invite myself out there, or just redenvous with Ray on the way back for a feed of nippers :-)

Stunned, there is a good post by Ray somewhere on here in a) B) c) format on how he baits, catches, resets the traps etc. Someone who can work the search function better than me will post a link to it I am sure.
