Strange lowrance readings pics included

has it done it before beau? could be interference from another sounder (passing boat)... i was going to suggest prop wash but the reading is far too intense for it. i've had similar but less intense readings and attributed it to a passing boat (mine is a humminbird for reference, so not sure if both brands suffer similar problems).

looking from the top, it appears to have quite a lot of interference of some sort reading as far down as 4 meters, seems the shallower it got the less effect but still a lot of interference, well at the top of the screen anyways.strange how all the lines and arches are on the same angle, try driving it in manual mode, and 1 last thing, can it distinguish between fresh and salt water, because furuno has the function to choose between salt and fresh, but i have never done a comparison.

ooops i thought the interference got less with the depth of water, sorry my bad 1 there. still goin with what i mentioned though !

Funny you say that rob, only really played up in 'deeper water' 6m or less id say and yeas does have different options but un sure as to fresh and salt mode?

Amen to that!

How fast were you travelling when your sounder was displaying that reading? Shows on depth sounders whilst stationery or very slow can show some weird stuff. E.g. Whilst stationery a couple of little fish within the cone of your sounder's transducer beam will constantly return an echo appearing much like a bigger more exciting show as they are constantly being pinged and returning an echo.

More likely explanation is a lot of suspended particulate crap in the water column. The fact that you get a good reading in shallower water would suppoirt this. In shallower water your transducer probably has enough power to penetrate through the crap and still return a clear reading.

Dirty water is on the money, also in one pic you have a row of bubbles rising. There is that much sediment and surface clutter in the water at the moment its hard to get a good reading. Also there is a lot of boney bream darting towards the surface probably for air as the oxygen levels are low. Funny though there is not much lung fish activity going on.

All these readings are from left of the ramp as it starts to drop off, Really odd as Iv never seen this before in my trips to npd and the rust water, will have another look at the readings to tomorrow when doing my pots, Thanks for the replies everyone all the info helps and more suggestions welcome

At least yours shows something!! I am new to these things and don't claim to know anything really about them. Mine shows depths and terrain but have never seen any arches for fish on it. Any ideas on what would be the problem? I have a lowrance but different discontinued model. Thought about going into the canals with a heap of bread to get the fish there and play with the thing but not holding my breath!
