Mackerel report before wave break island weekend

Went out with a mate in his boat the other day as he wanted a deckie on short notice and a few more tips on mackerel fishing. So i took him to 1 of my favourite spots and we anchored and started to jig up livies straight away. We rigged 1 and sent it on its way out the back and drifted a few pillies out the back.

It was only 5 minutes before the livie went off and the first of our fish was boated with my mates other deckie landing his first spanish mack

The weather only got better as the day went on and the water was the clearest i've seen it in years

The fish were going off today and the livies and pilchards were being taken by spanish and dolphin fish this would have to be the best day on sapnish mackerel i have experienced in southern queensland. We lost a few right beside the boat as well as many during the fight and we left them biting

With the camp down at wave break island over the next 2 weekends it should be good fishing if the weather is kind to us

We used to catch them from the beach up north at times and on the gold coast at palm beach reef i have caught them within shouting distance from the beach they should stay thick like this as long as the water stays warm and its 26degrees at the moment which is spot on Kelvin you should be able to get amongst them next weekend

Awesome catch Tugger - can't believe there are Spaniards and Dollies that close to shore. Can't wait for two weeks time - hopefully you guys leave some after this weekend!!!! Enjoy.

Kelvin.
