Canopy Repair

Lost it

The stitching in my canopy has finally had its day, just wondering what thread I should be looking for to re stitch it. This is for a long temp repair as the vinyl cover is showing signs of age aswell. I'm guessing I would need to use a polyester thread for it? Can't afford to have it re-skinned just yet. I guess nylon fishing line would be silly aswell as cotton? Any tips?

I have had several runs of stitching deteriorate on my bimini. I restitched it wit 30lb fluoro green braid. Has held up well for a long time and the contrast looks pretty cool if you do a neat job. Takes forever though.

20 gauge Polyester is what we use. Can also use similar weight cotton or cotton blends, however they will only last about 12mths to 2yrs, a bit longer if really looked after.

If the vinyl is still pliable and not cracked and brittle, it is definately worth getting it restitched ($90 from memory, been so long since we had to do one). Will get another year or two out of it then.

Thanks heaps for a great response guys. I will see if I can get some poly for the right price locally and have a go at stuffing it up myself.

If I feel I couldn't be bothered (which will probably be the case) I will probably get in touch with you bigtez and send some pics for you to get a better idea. $90 for a restitch does sound like a reasonable price. See how I go I may even ask you to quote a new cover and see if you can do a different clear screen for it too. ;) See how my budget stretches first. Cheers guys. Jason.
