I NEED SOME ADVISE CAN FISH SEE COLOURS ????

I have brought so many different types of Hard Body Lures so many different colors, and I have been asking my self is there a point to buying different colour lures or is it just a marketing trap.

If colours do matter and fish can tell the difference in colour lures what would be the best colors to use when trying to catch Bass @ Bream. ?????

hey mate, pritty sure fish see colours,or if not shades of colours like dogs do. the right colour lure makes all the diferance.

for eg.i fish the coomera alot and it has always fished really well for me in the past using silver/red, black/red, orange/red colour combination lures. recently i have been doin not that good either on these colours, just recently (since the floods) the gun lure colour for the coomera is brown/yellow, i reckon i must have spent too much money on lures in the last few months but in the end the money is worth it,just keep buyin lures till ya find the "chosen one" its often the cheap lures are the best they reckon lures catch more fisherman than fish.

LOL Its funny you say that about cheap lures i have a mate on here that buys cheap lures and my self i would spend $28 to $40 on lures and sometimes he gets more fish then me lol..

And you have hit the nail on the head lures catch more fisherman and there wallets then fish. hahah thats so very true but now im finding lures an adiction and need more and more to crave my hunger for fishing.

Post of the year tugger....

Fish can't see colours as we can. They see the difference in shades of light - so using a sharply contrasting lure like a red/white or something does actually show up in separate shades to the fish due to the different shades of light being reflected. Hence using dark lures in dark / murky conditions - the contrast still exists. Using a light lure the fish can effectively lose it in the dark. Throw into the mix some fish in the deep ocean can see ultra violet, infra red and the whole things gets confusing as hell!

On an aside, mantis shrimp have some of the most developed eyes in the invertebrate world. They can see pretty much the entire spectrum of light, including infra red and ultra violet.

That must be why they are hard to catch on a lure

Yeah... That's why... perhaps it's also because they can crack 12mm aquarium glass with their front claws... Or perhaps coz they don't eat lures. Not part of their natural diet.

  • 2 weeks later...

I heard clear lures work very well in clear water and i also was told that bass like gold/red/purple lures. But i realy do think that its not so much the colour but the way it works in the water.
