using crabs as bait

hi just wondering if any one knows how to rig a crab as a bait?

how to rig crabs as bait depends on weather you want to keep it alive or not.

to keep them alive the best way is to break off one of the very back legs put the hook in the soccet and out through the bottom of the crab or you can attach them to the hook with a rubberband

if you are useing them dead try lifting the tailflap and peeling the whole top shell off break the crab in half down the middle and pu the hook through the meaty section and out the bottom shell

I've heard a certain type of locktite, using it to glue the hook to the shell. Dont know which flavour locktite though!

When I've used them in the past, I used them dead (well they were alive before I put the hook in) and I just peeled up the tail flap, and pushed the hook through the under side and out through the carapace. I've never caught anything on them, but at Harry Atkinson reef, I had a massive run on one, rigged as above, but it let go and I had no crabs of that kind left.

Haha ... i using it to fish for stingrays at the brisbane river. Used crabs as bait for stingrays back in my country and it works well..

Dead crabs I prefer to put the hook straight through its mouth and bring the tip out under the tail flap.

This method has served me well over the years with many good bream being caught.

would u guys ever use dead crap meat thats used by itself on a hook. what r u gys targetig with whole crabs?

Instant superglue is also used when fishing with live crabs for venus tusk fish. Live sandcrabs are also a good live bait for cobia they love them. The cobia used to rip our witches hats to shreads over at the sandhills.
