is there any decent spots to drop a line in within say 15-20 minutes drive from there?

A couple of choices.... straight down logan motorway. From there you could pick a few spots on the Logan River. There is also Tygum Lagoon at Waterford. There is an earlier post on here where a few of us went down. We caught a few Tilapia, very small perch and some eels. Best bait on that day was this dough that Bud made up. Eel was caught on raw steak.

If you can get to Mt Warren Park we fished the Albert river last weekend from a boat just behind the golf course and caught about 6 legal bream a stingray and an eel. All caught on either prawns or mullet fillet.
