queensland sharking day in the bay 29.10.11

it has been awhile since my mate and me went chasing sharks so yesturday we decided to take the boat out around the bay to try our luck. the day started out quiet for us as the weather was cool for ages. it started to warm up around 9 and that was when the fish started to come. my mate was first to land a fish on the boat. a big catfish around 80cm mark. he shortly lands another one. i was next with a 1.2m shark. the fight was really good. ive forgotten how good it was after so long. my other two mates on the boat landed one each as well. so tally was 3 sharks and 2 catfish. we were using gar and pillies for bait. all up it was a good trip. got what we wanted to target and had a ball fighting them.

yeap we took one home out of the three. im not a big fan of shark but my dad love its. haha

Nice catch champ. Haven't done any shark fishing before, but would like to do some in the future. What setup were you using for them...ie: leader,braid lb, hook size, etc etc....

i was running a 5000 shimano reel with 30lb braid. used 40lb leader and a size 6/0 octapus hook

Great sharks mate, would have been great fun and pretty good on the tooth too. Do you have a particular spot/island you hit (just a yes/no is fine - not after a location)? Or do you just drive around looking for telltale signs?

Am keen to get out after them at some stage soon-ish ...
