Mud Island Fun !!

Hey Everyone

I first met Troy (Plugger) at the State of Origin in Jacobs Well and were talking about catching up for a fish around his stomping ground “Mud Islandâ€

With Troy starting his fishing guide business “Whyteline†it sounded like a good plan to head out with him and my mate Dan in search for some fish!

Oh yeah did I mention Troy has a Skeeter..... man that is a fun boat to go fishing in !!

We launch at dawn from Pinkenba and conditions were pretty good, towards the mouth the river was flat and Troy puts the throttle down and before you know it we crack 100 km’s per hour !!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING !!!!

So from this point both Dan & I had a smile from ear to ear as we continue our joy ride to Mud. There was a bit of swell/chop but Troy knew how to maneuver the Skeeter very well and in no time we had arrived ready to throw some plastics.

On our first drift we get a couple soft hits but no hook ups, I busted my line on a snag so Troy lent me his rod briefly, then near the shallow water we could see some activity and I flick my plastic, this fish took off at a rate of knots but after a short battle the line snapped on the rocks :( well that was bound to happen using 2 pound lol so I hand the silly string back to Troy and re-rig my rod.

We setup another drift and this time the skipper is hooked up and with a fair bit of rod bend !!! After a short tussle Troy lands this nice Cod !!!

Dan & I hadn’t really fished Mud before and was great to get a few tips from Troy. With a fish in the boat we hit up a few more of Troy’s spots and after a short while the skipper lands this little fella

After this the wind started to pick up and was making the fishing a little difficult and by this point I had also dropped a few fish but we persevered.

Again we hit up a couple spots and I land this nice 40cm snapper in a couple metres of water, he put up a pretty good fight on light gear and before you know it he was in the live well coming home for dinner tonight :)

As the morning went on we all were getting hungry and Troy had also catered for lunch, I gotta say he put on a mad spread, awesome chicken salad & ham salad sandwiches and he also bought along some freakin’ awesome prawns!!!! YUUUUUM!!!!

The fishing was a little slow after that, Troy had landed some wrasse fish, Snapper and I also landed a nice Flounder at the end of the trip.

Usually i don’t get excited about heading home from a days fishing but knowing that we got to fly back in the Skeeter was awesome!!!! near the mouth it got quite choppy but again the Skeeter powered through and was heaps of fun getting back to the ramp !!!!

Thanks heaps for taking us out today, we had a fun day out on the boat and also landed a couple nice fish. Lunch was awesome and we learn’t a couple nifty tricks/secrets about Mud :)

Next time we’ll take both boats out so we can film the Skeeter in action on the water :)

Never been on a Skeeter, sounds like a hoot! Nice little pinkie Manni! Shame about the bust off.

Sounds like Troy will be a successful guide ;)

I'm sure he will be, all round a good bloke and really does know his stuff and the ride it self is a blast !!!

Yep, definitely one of the nicest blokes I've met on the site !!

Well what can I say but thank you Manni and Dan for a great day on the water :)

It was slow but we managed to bag some fish with plenty of laughs along the way.

My impression of the Reaction Strike "Split Tails" is nothing short of fantastic :cheer: I was impressed on how realistic they look and act in the water, being a die hard gulp man it's hard to convince me to tie on anything else, but after the fish I got today with the tough conditions I think the gulp will be taking a back seat for a while. Oh and the silly string takes a bit of getting used to

Enjoy the catch for dinner boys yum yum
